I only gave two options, just to see who could hold up to Stevie. I picked Jimi for the fact that when anybody is asked, Who is the better guitarist? Most people answer with Jimi. He's just always been marked as the best.
-----------------------------------------------------

In my opinion it's Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I used to think it was Jimi that was best, but after learning guitar and studying players here and there, I've come to the conclusion that Stevie just couldn't be beat. He's was a master of tone and style that I've yet to see matched by anybody.

Even as good as Stevie Ray was playing Texas blues, Jimi was in a different Galaxy then any other rock guitarist.

I am a big fan of both of them. As a music writer/innovator, it's Jimi. As a player, it's Stevie. Not to say Stevie was that much better, but he was better. Now as to who was better at rhythm, it might have been Jimi. He was one of the best ever. Those guys are in the stratoshere IMO.

It's like a master and his student.

Jimi was like the original innovator. His improv, his literally mind expanding, unorthodox techniques. It was something people hadn't seen.

SRV took inspiration from Hendrix along with many other greats, and went with it. Technically speaking, SRV showed mastery of the guitar. He was better in that sense. He played more cleanly than Hendrix.

But then you flip it back, and Jimi could just take something mid song and go with it. Sure, it wasn't clean cut, it wasn't practiced; but that's the beauty. He took things and went with them in directions that others would never have thought to go.

It's very difficult to compare artists from different time periods. Jimi was an innovator, creating a platform, basically an original at what he did. SRV was not the first at what he did, but he WAS the best at what he did.

And on that note, I call it a tie. But I'm more into Hendrix. So Hendrix wins. :D

Both were talented and influential, but I'll go Jimi. IMO, he started the revolution and foundation for others to follow.
