Firstly I would like to say that it is not realistic to make a 24" scale neck as a replacement for a body that has been cut out and bridge possitioned for a 25.5" neck. It would cause bad intonation problems.

Hi again Martin: in fact it can be done, it is called a conversion neck and is designed to intonate correctly without moving the bridge position. Warmoth make them, though they only offer a 25.5 to 24.75" conversion, because that's the most popular. Here:

No mathematical reason why a 24" can't be done in the same way, though you'd have to lose a top fret or two so that the heel end of the neck doesn't run into neck pickup.

EDIT: spelling.

i figure that it there really is a market for this application,
somebodies R&D team would have already been on the ball with it.

ceri

these are actually fun guitars to play. ive played a couple myself.
they seemed great quality for the money too. for somebody that has
a 6 fret stretch from the nut, it gets crazy trying to play one lol.

Thanks for that link Way Cool Jr. It only goes to show that I am not on my own with the sizing idea. Its fair to say that they will not be to everyones taste but the 24" scale opens up some new possibilities for regular sized players as well as solving problems of smaller players.

I'll drop Snow White and email now and let her know where she can buy her Christmas Presents.

your welcome. those guitars are fun to play as i said. no tremolo's either. i cant remember off hand if the strings lace through the back or back behind the tail piece.
these lil suckers are ready to be modded or left as is. the guy that showed them to me was going to mod one with a tremolo. i havent seen him so i dont know if the project happened.

guys why are we forgeting about the jagmaster? in my opinion the only problem this guitar has is a weak variety of finishes but it is i nice quality instrument... if i recall correctly it has a 24" scale conversion neck i'd love more finishes on the guitar...

dear squier i ask for more finishes... please don't change the guitar in its construction it's just perfect the way it is conversion neck and everything :D

Hi everyone
Lots of great question & answer in this topic. This is my view of the 24" scale guitar. I look at the guitar as I would a bicycle. Each model bike comes in SM-M-L. I just equate that to hand size. I know there is a give and take issue here but If I was going to race my bicycle I would be able to perform my best on a bike that fit me. To me everything else is just a wedge issue :) I have 4 DGW Contenders all with different pickups and all sound fantastic. All have thier own tone. I know it's not a big market for a large guitar company to get into and that is why I started DGW. You may not realize this but Brian May (Queen) Ted Nugent and a ton of others play and have played short scales for much of their career. This is a Vid of the DGW Contender in action.

The teenage girl who replied a little higher up the page has good points about the sound from a 24" neck. All I can say to you is, everything is a trade off. What you will lose from one scale length you will gain something else from the other. It's already there now with the difference between the standard Fender 25.5" scale and the 24.75" Gibson scale. One sounds different to the other, but because they have both been around since the year dot, everyone excepts the difference in sound and uses it to effect. Fender (allbeit Squier) have 24" scale guitars for your appraisal, if you get to try them, look for something extra they have to offer rather than what you have been used to. It's there, you just have to look past the end of your nose.

Actually Fender, not just Squier, makes 24' scale guitars as well. The Mustang and Jaguar are BOTH 24" scale, and both probably my favorite Fender guitars.
