Ceri, so you don't feel neglected, I'll bet the two Prius' look cute next to each other in the drive.

One's black and one's white. Erm, anyone remember "two-tone" music from the late '70s? Meh...

And to fendermandan: sports cars exist so that women can be superior and snotty about "manhood extensions" and such. And yet, strange thing: you never see a middle-aged guy in a snappy red sports car but that there is always a beautiful younger woman sitting in the seat next to him. Go figure...

Cheers guys - C

thats cause he cant afford one, his extra cash is being eaten up by her. nails, clothes, makeup, new boobs, her car, her friends, where she wants to go, what she wants for the house, what shes driving, how often she wants to eat out, then on top of all that he has his wife and kids to think about too.

So. What gives?

I posted above that I am the owner of not one but two Toyota Priuses, and that I shamefully sold a gorgeous racing green Jaguar to buy one of them. I then sat back and waited for all you petrol heads to fall upon me and tear me to shreds, like a pack of slavering wolverines on a bleating lamb at a live meat eating festival.

What the hell happened to this Forum? Are everyone's manners just too damn polite?

Just kidding, guys. But where's mclmk8d got to? He'll sort my priorities out for me on this thang. :D

Cheers - C

well, off to the shredder you go ceri :D but to each his own i guess.
i own a big fat F-150 with a 5.4 V8, and a 69 Mustang with a 5.8 V8 (that's 351W bored .030, so it's actually 355, with a mild cam and dual exhausts for all the other motorheads here).
the secret to saving gas is not MPG, it's not driving all that much. i'll bet i've used less gas in the past 5 years than all you hybrid folks have used in the past 2.
my truck is a 2006 and i just passed 24,000 miles. (18-22mpg)
i put about 500 miles a year on the mustang. (about 14mpg)

ahh, the beauty of being self-employed and working from home.

i pushing the red button on the shredder now, but i guess with all the environmentally friendlies out there i'll be next in line to get pushed in. 8)

At this moment in history when car design is so flippin' ugly that might just be the most beautiful car I've ever seen - in my completely meaningless subjective opinion. Oh mammy! [Sigh]

Cheers - C

True. But I would like to humbly throw this car in the pot:

Image

Aston Martin V8 Vantage S Coupé. I am and probably always will be torn between Aston Martins and Jaguars; Jags usually win by the breadth of a hair. So somehow I thought we needed another nice looking car on this thread. That's all.

And folks, in my humble experience *sound of clearing my throat* I can say: as much as I admire Toyota's engineering, the Prius' SatNav and iPod extensions are, to say it kindly, poop. I mean here we have a car that manages to fill it's own battery, show you on a heads-up display how fast it's gowing, and possibly even tell you how many tomatoes you have at home in your fridge, but it can't direct you properly from A to B, and certainly won't let you listen to the music on your iPod while not getting there... :?

Anyhow, it's a very pleasant car, especially when one is chauffeured in it! 8)

;)

Cheers guys.

Ceri and all the rest, if you like your Prius, that is great, but you also said it felt like your manhood had been stripped from you when you sold the jag (or words to that effect) and I do understand what you mean about that...but in your case you are saving a bunch of money and I figure 8K in pounds could buy alot of Gear...so good on you...

...But they will have to pry my cold dead hands off of both my Vette and my Strat!

I am what I am...if I might quote Popeye!

Just how much gear will a Prius hold?

Really......!

I'm usually toting half of a PA as well as my own rig.

I'll stick with my all-wheel drive pickup if it's all the same.

Besides......I love the view.

I can see the roof of every Prius on the road.

You go ahead, though.

Arjay

The energy it takes to mine the heavy metals for the electric cells more than offsets any savings in CO2 creation. Factor in the pollution from mining, smelting the metals building the cells, fossil fuels used by the vehicles for mining and transportation.....

The electricity used to recharge electric cars comes almost without exception fossil fuels or nuclear energy, so the idea of cutting "greenhouse gases" is a myth

Given the fact that the electric cells have a limited life and must be replaced ooops! New cells or new car.

Natural gas or plant derived alcohol fuels, ethanol, seem to me a better route in the interum.

I do not buy in to the whole anthromorphic gloal warming scare anyway. It's not based on "real science" and is really more a tennant of the religion of the "new age" progressives, fellow travellers, marxists etc. Solor activity has vastly more influence on global climate than fossil fuel consumption. And it is a lie that there is a "consensus" that its happening.

I actually more concerned with the other prediction of the end of mankind when all those computer chips shut down in the year 2000. Y2K..... Another myth!

Before that we were all going to burn up because of the "ozone hole" and before that the "ice age" was coming.

In this opinion, the "total cost of ownership" should be a factor strongly considered.

Purchase price + insurance + fuel over "X" miles driven + normal maintenance = ???

Personally, 'drive a '93 Jeep purchased in '04 for $3K. Less than $500 per year purchase price. About $42 per month "car payment."

Using 400 gallons of gas per year = about $1600

Really low insurance.

Normal wear and occasionally something wears out.

Do your own math.
