Quick question guys and girls....

How old were you when you started playing music?

I got my first guitar at 5 and my mom taught me a G chord which I played along with every tape I had for the next three years. Then I got a Mel Bay book for my 8th birthday and realized I was supposed to move my left hand when I was playing  A whole new can of worms that opened.

we learned piano at an early age. My parents rescued an old upright piano from a school house that was being knocked down. It is the piano that i have in my house now (circa 1904). unfortunately i never took it serious so i can't play anything. then i picked up guitar at around 15... played for a while but stopped after high school. then started again 2 years ago and have a much deeper passion and appreciation for it. Really have to make up for so many wasted years.

There has always been a piano in my house; both growing up and now in my house, I still can't play it. I always say I'll learn, never happens.

actually we brought the piano down from PA to Florida and it sat in a garage for a while. Then we had an exchange student from japan that played piano so we restored it and had it professionally tuned up. it was really nice to fix it up, it was a funky 70's yellow so we got it back to black and totally fixed up (the tune up was 3 stages with new felt and hammers and the whole gig). my mom plays it so it isn't a total waste. maybe one day we will have another exchange student that plays.

Same here.

Buddy Holly's guitar intrigued me when I saw him on the Ed Sullivan Show and the music of The Beach Boys got me hooked about five or six years later.

It's a terrible "addiction"!

Started playing violin at 9 and drums and xylophone at 11. Started paying guitar at 18 when one of the guitarists in one of my old bands got locked up. Brooke, the lead player at the time, taught me enough rudimentary stuff to fill out the rhythm and I was hooked, wished I had been playing longer.

My mother played piano and I used to noodle on that growing up, but didn't get serious until I was about 12. Started on guitar soon after that (using piano to tune strings with).

I was 21yrs, I played sax in high school but for only one year.

It was while I was at work back in '71, that a friend who was also a co-worker, and I were talking about Jimi Hendrix at 'Woodstock'. I mentioned that I would love to learn how to play guitar, but I was married with a daughter and one on the way, and no money for anything extra.

He told me that he had a guitar & amp, the guitar needed strings, and that I could have them both!

The guitar & amp turned out to be a Sear Silvertone combo Image, me and my daughter. I was hooked from the start!

Just about a year later I brought a brand new '72 Strat for $350, I still have it. Image

Oh, and the guy who gave me the Silvertone, we're still friends and work together. I took him to meet James Burton, one of his idols a couple of years ago, me, James Burton & my friend Travis. Image
