I, Timothy Drake, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Many men and women have lost their lives living in allegiance to the above Oath. My thoughts and prayers go out to all families that lost loved ones in war; past and present. I took that oath very seriously when I raised my right hand at the MEPS station, but I never understood the true weight behind it until my very close friend Greg took a round to the head that, had it been 5 seconds later would have been aimed at me. R.I.P Greg, you are gone, but you will NEVER be forgotten.
I urge everyone, Memorial Day or not, to shake the hand of a veteran and thank them for their service.
