Dude, don't even try. This thread comes up every few months and it always results in the same outcome, all of the forum's elder statesmen saying the same tired $@!& about how rap isn't music.

The irony being they are probably saying the same thing THEIR parents said about rock and roll;)

The difference is that about 25% of rock is about that as opposed to 98% percent of rap being about that kind of stuff. If you listen to good rock you will likely get more then good rap, at least I do (given that I don't know of good rap but still...)

90% of mainstream rock has been about that, actually. Either that, or just complete drug induced euphoria, promotion of various drugs, money, being a "ROLL N ROLL STAR!!!", driving a nice car, and other generally stupid s***. There's about as much mindless rock as there is mindless rap, maybe even more so considering even those idiotic rap lyrics can be pretty damn hard to write.

ps, I DO listen to more rock than rap, however I think rock is more guilty of such jackassery as previously mentioned.

Made my day, really funny. As for the rest of your post, to each his own I guess. I disagree but if everyone agreed about everything great songs would not have been written. Anyways whatever.

All mainstream music is trash. I don't give a $@!& what genre it is, it's overproduced soulless bullshit.

Hip Hop at its truth, the real noncoporate backed, illest form is the music of the streets. Those of us raised on the corners and the projects of the world. If you don't like it, it isn't for you.

Hip hop and punk rock however are my motherfucking genesis.

These threads always make me laugh, there are so many rappers with the quick wits, intelligence and lyrical skills that so many songwriters can only dream of. A producers or DJ's equipment is as much an instrument as any other, people see it as easy but it is anything but, and these people have such an extensive knowledge of music from every music genre you can imagine.

There is more openness and respect for the different musical genres in rap and dance music than in almost any other kind of music, there is just so much ignorance by so many people as to what rap music is and almost make a conscious effort to hate it.

Well, I've never heard a Rap "song" that I actually enjoyed. Also anything autotuned is deemed garbage by my opinion.

This post implies that any rap more than 2 or 3 years old was autotuned and that the autotuned s*** is actually rap.

after big and tupac, the only significant rap/hip hop artist has been Outkast, i really dont like referring to women as bitches and hoes and hearing the same beat slowed or changed a bit backed with the ideology tht smoking "hella kush" is cool, rap is in its "80s" stage like rock was where every artist is a carbon copy glamorous millionaire put on like rock in the eighties

Look at indie hip hop then, it's a totally different beast. Check out anyone from Rhymesayers, Odd Future, Doomtree, Def Jux, Heiroglyphics, or others.

Speaking of Odd Future, what's the deal with Earl Sweatshirt? Isn't he in some boarding school or some idiocy?

Wow. Does she not realize that he's going to be 18 (ie out of her control) in like a year anyway? Yea, because pissing off a kid by sending him to boarding school is sure to set him straight.
