as a musical tie in, though not a musical movie.

'How I Won the War' was a hoot.

War satire with John Lennon in a supporting role. His only non Beatle film, and probably his best.
The unit the film follows is sent in early during the allied landings in North Africa to set up cricket pitches behind enemy lines, so they are in place for the main invading force. as a consequence they end up doing almost all of the dirty work, and get no credit. the commanding officer is both gung-ho and incompetent so leads his men into disaster. they repeatedly fail to 'remove' him.

Filming happened right after the Beatles stopped touring but before they broke up. It was while on location that Lennon started composing Strawberry Fields. It was also for this film that John cut his mop-top, and started wearing his soon to be iconic round glasses.

The very one, Frankie.

Make sure you get the "director's cut" -- it has about four or five additional minutes of footage, including one deleted scene with JoBeth Williams and her father.

No contest in this mind.

"The Longest Day."

Big enough cast and scope to give the viewer a panorama / primer of one of the most important events in recorded history."

And Father went ashore at Utah Beach....
