For me, the absolute worst were the t-rations Chicken Cacciatore. The first time I saw this in Grafenwoehr Germany, I thought they were pulling a joke on me. Not to be overly gross, but it looked like what someone would barf up after drinking a whole bottle of Puerto Rican 151. It tasted pretty nasty too!

My favorite was when the mess hall (Frankfurt Germany) would serve apple crisps for desert. My wife and I were young privates back in '77 and she would always pretend that she did not like it and give me hers.

truebluefliplover, t-rations story sounds like the worst but your apple crisps sounds like the very best, congrats Bro.

No-one wants to hear this but we ate like kings in the Air Force. My first 4 on the flight line, every aircraft that wasn't air force that landed, crew asked to go to the chow hall.lol
for the worst, MREs I agree could have an adverse effect on the GI tract of whomever has the unpleasant task of eating one. Unless, of course, if you're starving they might actually be very edible.

Solid Body Love Songs:

I remember once, after coming back from the field, I had some MREs that I had not eaten in my duffle bag. The kids found them and thought that they were some kind of great treat

 that was an inexpensive in dollars gift that they will remember, Congrats Dad!

At the Ranger school we were issued two c-rats a day for two months and we could only eat when we were told to. I lost 30 lbs. on that diet. Didn't have a problem with it then and still don't.

We all had to eat MRE's for a while during Katrina and was glad to have them. In fact. I've several boxes of them left over I've been keeping for another emergency. Do any of y'all know how long those MRE's last? You never know now a days!!

Sorry if already been discussed, I should have read the whole thread!!

The short answer is YEARS but It depends on how it is stored. The following link is from the official MRE info site.
