I bought a used Dan-Echo pedal a couple years ago. Now it is not working. My dad, who used to build electronics, took a look at it and told me the chip is gone and he could not find another. I contacted DanElectro and they do not have any replacement parts for this. Is this pedal destined for the trash or do I now have a very cool looking paperwight?

I could pull it apart to see if there are any numbers or codes on it.

+1

I've warned of this "planned obsolescence" for years.

(nobody listened)

Since Danelectro pedals aren't that expensive to start with, going through all the expense involved in buying a new chip and getting it installed probably wouldn't be worth it.Then again it won't cost you anything to hang on to it just in case you may luck into a replacement down the road.

Service and labour is free, because my dad used to do that sort of thing for a living. The length of time it will take him to get around to doing it is another story! (it took him 2 months just to look at the thing!)
I need a chip that I can't seem to find, rendering it useless at the moment.

Save the case, the switch, the battery clip and the pots also if possible.
Use em to build your own pedal in that housing. Their the most expensive bits of any pedal. The rest of it comes to a figure somewhere under £10. Same story for any pedal on the market.

What pedal was it?

at the very least keep it on a parts pile in case you want to start building your own. might be able to salvage the case and some of the parts out of it. or if you want send it to me for my parts pile. :D

I'm with Nikininja. Save it and do something creative with it. Lots of good parts there.

+3!

Or give it to your dad for "harvesting". I'm sure there are still plenty of usable components that can be recycled.
