It's an early (SN 26XX) Maestro PS-1 Phase Shifter. I cannot believe my luck to have found one of these locally! As famously used by John Paul Jones in "No Quarter". Randy Rhoads also had one during his Quiet Riot days.

I apologize for not having any means of recording a demo for you all. Here's a link of something I came across:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKwRKw7LoKs

That's all for now.. 8)

Sweet! Those vintage Maestro effects are highly sought after in many quarters -- that was a nice find.

A co-worker of mine recently let me try out a 'Maestro Parametric Filter' he bought as a teenager back in the '70s. It's a pretty wild effect: a combination overdrive/EQ pedal with oversize dials you can adjust with your foot while you play. It looks like a big old transistor radio, but has a nice, old school sound.

I believe at least some of the Maestro pedals were manufactured by Moog Music, the makers of the legendary Moog synthesizers.

depending on the price that could be a good find right there. resell is always possible if bought right.

Alright, I've taken a good look at the unit, and this particular PS-1 is in spectacular condition! It has been well preserved for an early 70's example.

I did not make the purchase with any intent of getting a deal. 10 years ago these things were found frequently on ebay and were likely running under $100. They've since been snapped up and I managed to find this one at $200 to which I humbly accepted. I would only suppose that any vintage piece will eventually gain a bit of value in the future.

Here is an interesting history read:

I haven't, but I am not one who is entirely concerned with wiring. It's the sound that matters. Either way, it offers peace of mind to know that I won't ruin anything

Nice! I checked out some of the other Maestro effects demos on youtube too. Pretty crazy stuff. :)

Those Maestro phasers are pretty nice units -- a lot quieter than the equivalent-vintage MXR's due to being AC-powered.

IIRC, there was also an optional tripod-type stand that could be used to raise the unit to waist level, allowing for easier and more precise manipulation of the rocker switches.

Nice score!

Congratulations Toronado! What guitar player wouldn't want one? Amazing sound.

Correct as usual, Arjay!

The base of the unit has an additional plate (also comprised of sheet metal) which has a hole threaded for a standard microphone stand. Solid as a rock, I say!

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback!

Mic stand, okay I remember now.

It's been a while, Toronado.

:P

Don't feel a-tall guilty about that "impulse" buy -- I would've jumped on it in a heartbeat too.
