ok guys we didn't decide much on this the last time but i got an idea that can solve this we are going to vote the nominees that were most mentioned on the original topic only two will be elected cause the jazz bass and the p bass are pretty much unanimous... remember we are looking for basses that made history, that were famous and remained that way over the years and that were used by many famous people over time

(and most likely (not necessarily) have been copied by other brands  )

happy voting

in 31 days the poll is over

edit: you can vote 2 basses... i find it easier cause we get a higher number making the count more precise

I put my vote on the Sting Ray. After the Jazz and P bass I think the Sting Ray is the most iconic for sure.

I saw my first Gibson Flying V bass guitar a few nights ago, it belonged to the bass player for local band Headspin and I am embarrassed that I can't remember his name, a very cool Bro and a top bass guitarist. That bass should get an icon just for being. 8)

with only 375 of them in circulation, the easiest way is Gibsons custom shop. The rep there told me $2500.00 for a new Barney Kessel custom, very helpful and courteous on the telephone.

The most iconic bass of all time is the Hofner Violin bass.
Instantly recognizable and associated with only really one musician.

It helped redefine rock n roll and made millions of kids wanna play bass in a band.

i personally put the hofner to keep the voting as most objective as possible to what i think i don't really think it should be one for a simple reason, it hasn't been seen that many times i only recall paul mcartney using one i think there are basses here that deserve it more than the beatle bass... i used my votes on the rick bass cause you see it everywhere and on the stingray (who hasn't wanted one of these?)

guys i noticed how most of you comented why you voted for the basses you voted for... feel free to say a few words to defend your bass if you think it's necessary... there are a few that are here that personally i'd like to know how they made the list of candidates

p.s. sorry for the three comments in a row ;)

My reason being,No p-bass no jazz bass that really narrows the playing field down ALOT,but if they were'nt laying it down on a p-bass or slappin the funk right out the jazzbass then its a toss up between a Ric or a MusicMann bass, either one can duplicate the sound of the other(with the proper player)so its a fools guess,I would not own a Ric and sold both my M.M.'s so my guess is YES,any Fender is Iconic.END OF STORY.

I love the Beatle bass, and it was my choice, but personally, I love the Ric bass. I'm also a huge fan of the Scott Pilgrim books, media, game, etc though and it is featured prominently.
