Hey guys, I find that I have been listening to more and more downloaded mp3s ever since our last discussion on here got me to give them a real chance.
The only media player on my computer is windows media player, and I really hate it. So what's a good one I can download?

SongBird is excellent. Like iTunes but more aesthetically appealing and supports a wider range of formats.

I use FooBar 2000, my mp3 collection just crossed the 110,000 file mark, so the more bloated programs hang when I put my entire library on shuffle.

The best one I've found over the years is Winamp it supports all the formats that i've ever come across. It is free too (a useful hint is to turn off the winamp agent so you control updates ect.) hope that helps.

Downloaded WinAmp since it was free and I wanted to give it a shot. MUCH better the WMP. Thanks for the suggestion dharma.

While on the topic, can anyone help with this- I have a car stereo with a USB input I can insert a flash drive loaded with music in mp3 format, and I have itunes on my laptop. Thing is, I want to trasfer songs I have purchased from itunes store to my flash drive so I can put it in the stereo and play music, but I cant do that because they are mpeg4 format & the car stereo only plays mp3's.

Is there a way to transfer mpeg4 to mp3 without the kerfuffell so I can play on my car stereo? :)

Well, first we need to know if your files are protected or not, are they m4p or m4a?

If they are m4p, that means they are protected files, with iTunes absolutely draconian DRM, and you can't do it.

I may be wrong, as I'm actually fairly new to downloading music, but I believe iTunes tracks are 'locked' in to mp4 format. The only way I can think to get around that would be to burn the songs to a cd-r or cd-rw and then rip them from the disc back to your computer and save those files to mp3 format. I'd suggest using something like goldwave or audacity that will also allow you to resample the tracks to the highest possible rate before transferring to the flash drive. A lot of work I know, but I don't know if there's any other way to do it.
Also, this one's pretty obvious, but sometimes the easy answers are the ones we overlook...If your deck has an auxillary input, which I assume it does, you can just hook your iPod up and there you have it. Either way, good luck.

Just did a quick google search on the subject and it looks like you can convert the m4a files to mp3 right in iTunes by right clicking the track and choosing "Create Mp3 version"
