I was practicing a couple nights ago and she stuck her head in the room, and said "You need to learn some new licks, man you are stale." Keep in mind I play a lot of classic rock that she has herd on the radio a bunch and I have to play a song about 1000 times before I'm happy with it. I think she said it tongue in cheek but I don't know what to do. I guess I will learn some new licks. Or maybe crank it up and play Heartbreaker over and over.

Do you guys or gals ever get asked to mix it up?

My wife seems to have come to terms with hearing songs over and over as I'm learning them. I try to keep some variety going when I'm just sitting around jamming though.

How did you achieve this? Old jedi mind trick? Some sort of dark magic? I must know.

hmm, I like it. I feel as if I need a contingency plan if I go with this (and maybe a helmet).

My wife once asked: Is it supposed to sound like that?
That was a real ego boost.

...I'd perhaps ask a friend if you could stay on his or her sofa too before I'd go down that road- you need a backup plan

Seriously, I'd learn a few more licks and crank it up even more. Maybe you could teach her how to play- that usually keeps people quiet when they realise how much practice it takes to get to your level

i try to keep my relationship pretty spontaneous in everything... and i mean everything ;) dude she's probably tired of the routine and plus trying something new could only make you a better guitarrist try some songs you like but have never played

i agree with this... my ex bass player was hitting hard on playing guitar instead of bass once just cause he learned a firewind riff but to this day he can't do sum 41 chords and riffs together  i think he's gonna take my place as guitarrist now...

plus this could give you two something to do together...

I found me a good one, and honestly she probably knows it'd be a waste of time to say something; I'm gonna play either way. I make sure and take her out to nice dinners and little 'dates' at random times, it helps my case a lot.

All good advice. I like the idea of teaching her to play. She has mentioned this before. I need to follow up on it.

Got a brother? Just kidding. It's really never been a problem for me 1) I've dated guitar players & they get it 2) I don't think they cared *what* I was playing. eye roll.

Sometimes when I'm plinking away on a solid body with my headphones on and come across a lick that I have to run through several times to get right, the missus will do that dut dut sound with her tongue that only women can do when they get annoyed.
