Slash IMO is seriously overrated. I got tired of 'Sweet Child O Mine" and "Welcome to the Jungle" real fast. I like hard rock, but Slash never it for me as a guitarist. Has nothing to do with him personally. I read his interviews and really enjoy them. I'd go have a couple of beers with him, I just don't think he's all that great as a guitarist.

I think that Martian put it in the right context when he asked which one would you rather have in your band.My answer to that would be Page hands down,no contest. Jimmy Page even since his Yardbirds days was putting out some of the most difficult and soulful licks ever to come through an amplifier.I was never a big Led Zep fan and lost interest in them after their 3rd album but I've always been amazed by Pages technical ability and the emotion he can wail out a song with.
Slash on the other hand has never done a thing for me,granted he's a great guitar player but what he plays doesn't hit me like Page's playing always did.I don't have any Gn'R albums mainly because of Axel Roses singing which annoys me almost as much as Geddy Lee's.

I'd rather have neither in my band. They're both washed up and are just relics of a foregone era of rock n' roll, the only thing they're good for is to draw out 20,000-50,000 people every show who'd rather listen to the same old licks rather than take a risk and try something new.

Wait, 50k people? Wow, on second thought I might want them in my band. For a year or two and then I could retire. If I could get Slash and Axel together I could retire after one show. ^^

Tuff one...neither...Slash is overated, not bad, just overated, and Jimmy has always been a sloppy player at best, he wrote some nice tunes but as a player, not bad, just not in league with Clapton, SRV, Duane Allman, or even George Harrison for that matter...Oh sorry I thought this was the get it off your chest post...my bad...

Page by a nose! Slash is overrated But there always seems to be someone new to overrate every couple of years these days. If they are playing an instrument when they are making music............These days.., That's good enough for me, But Jimmy Page is better. 8)

the thing i like about slash is hes straight forward good rock n roll.
hes not full of himself and hes a down to earth guy. when 80s rock
started to fade out to that grunge crap, slash stayed working.
hes worked with a lot of different people as a hired gun, and through
the 80s and 90s he was gibsons biggest endorsement. gibson
sunk a lot of hope and money into slash and he payed off for them.
it was a good deal for both. slash isnt anything "amazing" ok, but
he good rock n roll. hes infact a great reminder of what hard rock
was ment to be. rawk on slash, you have my respect.
