I have been looking at that site for a while now. Been think about building a TubeScreamer clone. I do a lot of soldering on a day to day basis, so I know that won't be a concern. I really like the idea of building one myself; it's like the old saying goes...If you want something done right, Do it yourself. Even if you are a novice when it comes to electrical components, you have the luxury of taking your time and doing things right; the guy building pedals in a factory won't always have that luxury. Just my 2 cents. Let us know what you decide, and if you build a pedal, how it comes out.

if you are near a Harbor Freight they sell a very handy magnifying class with flexible clamp arms. It is worth its weight in gold and they sell super cheap. You can get cheap soldering kits but if it is something you envision doing get a nice soldering gun ( i use a craftsman kit) and most solder comes with flux built in so there are tons of options. Hit up Harbor freight and radio shack if you need small electric parts.

Hi all

Can't beat the EH stuff. Like I said the BYOC has way more reverb than I'll ever want. Still sounds great in the loop of the rebel with no digital artifacts.

Do what i did mate add the micro switch and resistor to tame that puppy right down. A while back i posted pics on here of the reverb and british blues OD byoc pedals id built. I reckon you hardly need to be able to read a diagram to solder em together.

Id recommend peeps to try em just for the fun of it as much as anything.

How much electronics skill do you need to build one? I can solder and check circuits - good enough?

Hi MarkusW: yes. Good enough.

Again, take a glance at the PDF instructions on each pedal's page on the BYOC website. Immediately you'll see how simple it all is.

And to Al87: I clearly remember your Clone pedals. Care to post those pictures again, so's people on this thread can take a look? All the inspiration someone waiting to put their toe in the water needs...

Cheers - C

I echo what Ceri just said.... If anyone has a "clone" pedal that they built from scratch, could you please post a picture of it (more importantly - post a photo of the inside of it) ???

MarkusW - that BYOC website has .pdf documents for every single pedal component and from what I see, it takes you step by step, piece by piece, and basically walks you through building a pedal.

For myself, I wish I had inherited my dad's electronic "gene" or something. He was a senior electronics engineer with IBM back in the day and retired in 1977 (as you would guess, even at my age, I'm the baby of the family). Anyway, you name it, my dad built it. He had his own workshop in the far end of the house when I was a kid. He was so awesome, he could tell you the name of a tube by just looking at it. He could tell you the power of a capacitor by just looking at it. Same with diodes and resistors and stuff like that. The man was a genius, and sadly, he passed away back in 2002 at 80 yrs old. :(

BYOC seems to have a little higher quality components. Some pedals include some NOS stuff too. Either company will let you build a nice box.

Ah, I somehow missed Al87 posting his pics on this thread. Thanks for that, Al! :)

Nice work: from this point on I might be sending my soldering jobs up to you to do for me. I bet those photos are encouraging to anyone on this thread wondering about jumping in with this stuff.

Are you planning any more pedals?

Cheers - C

Well it inspired me to dig the reverb pedal out and plug her in again and it sure does sound nice. I think half to battle with em is to get a supply to em (mains i mean) that doesnt pick up a load of gruff. The Bare Knuckle pups are lovely but they can be a bit "hissy" as youd expect so not adding much more is a bonus.

To answer your original point, not at the moment BUT and its a big BUT heh heh i have on order a kit amp.
Only after id sent for it did they tell me it was on back order for "weeks" and that was despite asking em first doh.

Ahwell just have to wait. :|

I'm going to toss this in too.
MOD Kits DIY
http://www.modkitsdiy.com/
I've never built any of their stuff and it's true PTP even the pedals no boards whatsoever. The demos sound pretty good too.

Ooo, that is so interesting! Which one, might I ask?

I just happen to know of several people on this Forum who would be so fascinated to see how you get on with that. Could we ask you very politely to take lots of photos as you work on it and show us, please?

Kudos to you.

Cheers - C

Well id kinda thought about it for a while and Snowy 487 i think his name is (appologies Snowy if ive got that wrong) did a 57 deluxe 5E3 (complete with better pics and inside info than ill probably manage)
so i figured the wattage sounded summat like so why not have a go.

Bit pricey whever you go to but even allowing for shipping/tax etc etc i decided to go to Tube depot.

A guy in Germany "tubeampdoctor" does em as well apparently.

If it ever arrives ill do my best pics wise sure.
