Anyone have any experience playing with a leather covered body?

I had experience playing with a leather covered body once. But I don't think it belongs on this "family friendly" website.

:D

Leather usually describes the hide of a dead animal. Is that what you are saying?

Those are pretty nice. Looks like they lace on around the edges right? I actually think a leather cover would be pretty cool on my Tele. My wallet is hand tooled leather my Grandad made in prison many years ago, along with lots of other stuff. Tooled leather always reminds me of him ...r.i.p.

I love these leather covers, but my only Tele is a MIM, so it seems silly to spend multiple times the cost of the guitar on the cover:">

Usually they wound up removing it because they didn't like the way it...felt or smelled after they sweated all over it.

My concern about it. Still, my Tele gets probably the least play of all my guitars, so it would look awesome on the wall still...

Sadly Rebel, my grandad was in prison more than he was out during his adult life. And I've got a couple uncle's that will never see the light of day again.

Gassing so hard, I would love to break out the leather covered Tele for Folsom Prison Blues, but I really only use 2 guitars gigging, a jag and a strat and I won't be doing any shows until 2012 :(

I keep talkingmyself in and out of getting one of these

The pickguards are super nice too, love the engraved ones, and the engraved ashtray bridge cover is super awesome too.

I have covered 7 Telecasters and it DOES NOT change the tone of the guitar!! It's wrapped on the body SO TIGHT, that it helps with the guitar resonating and vibrations. I have 2 that I did which are almost identical to Waylon's Tele and 2 that are done in a Sheridan style tooling and finish.
Waylon was not the one who had his first tele covered in leather, it was Waylon's 1st wife and his band!! Waylon's first wife and his band wanted to get him a birthday present. The band and Waylon's wife pulled together $40 and Richie Albright bought a '53 Tele from a pawn shop. Later that week after a gig at a bar in Arizona, Richie pulled out the guitar to show the band after Waylon had left for the night. The band members were worried that Waylon might not like the guitar because it was a little beat up. The guy sweeping up the floor and stacking chairs overheard them and offered to cover the guitar in leather for $25!! That story I got DIRECTLY FROM RICHIE ALBRIGHT!! Jeff Mosby does great leather work!! I have 2 straps he made for me about 6 years ago and I still use them to this day! Cody Hixon also does great work and alot of Shooter's guitars! NOW, if you want a guitar covered by a guy who did one for WAYLON, just Google Terry Lankford!! He did Waylon's SECOND LEATHER COVERED TELE: the one with the BLACK PICKGUARD WHICH IS NOW OWNED BY KEITH URBAN!! Doug
