So I was just placing an order with El Dorado for a custom guitar strap and I noticed they have the most amazing tele body.

Anyone have any experience playing with a leather covered body?

I wouldn't put it on an acoustic, though Elvis proved it can be done! ;) It wouldn't be sonically disturbing for an electric though, maybe perhaps impair the susain by 1%.... but that's just my opinion.

I rather resent the fact of wrapping my guitar up like a shoe / christmas present!

Waylon Jennings had a leather covered Tele.,he played it for years,I've often wondered what the finish looked like underneath.

It was white and a little roadworn...that's why he had it covered with leather.

I was a little disappointed when I saw what this thread was about...I thought there would be a picture of Halle Berry in that outfit from Catwoman.

I had experience playing with a leather covered body once. But I don't think it belongs on this "family friendly" website.

:D

Anything like Elvis', or anything like the Tele body? Elvis' did it because Hank Snow had one and then Rick Nelson and Buddy Holly did them too. At least with the case of Elvis, the sound was irrelevant because he rarely played while performing and if he did you really couldn't hear him anyway. It was kind of the thing at the time, especially with your name on it for self promotion. They had fallen out of fashion by the '60s. As for the Tele, that one looks pretty cool and is kind of in tune with the whole Tele association with Country and western.

I'm not too keen on the whole body being covered..............

Saying that I am in discussions with a leather compant here in UK to see about having a tooled leather pickguard made for a Tele...................

The added mass might increase the sustain!!
I've played with guys who did that, I didn't notice and tonal change and they never mentioned it. Usually they wound up removing it because they didn't like the way it looked, felt or smelled after they sweated all over it.
