I have a wr120 and use it as my knock around...It stays in tune, and sounds great! I think(IMO) that when Wasburn got a player endorsed(Dimebag) deal, they just went nuts and now all they produce is pointy guitars...I prefer the "pre-dimebag" period. Mine has two single coil pups and a humbucker. The thing is almost indestructable. :)

I have a 2007 Washburn USA Made Pilsen Idol. It's a great guitar. Warm Jazzy. Very first guitar I bought. I will never let it go.

Too fun, stable, archtop flame maple, ebony fingerboard.

The XM series had a low end model with two humbuckers and a wammy, flat top. Unforgiving at high volume, if you can't play like Rick Neilsen, fugedabadit. I traded it for a SWR workingman 2004.

I have a Washburn Acoustic/Electric which sells for about $350 on musiciansfriend. I got it used for $100. It's a laminate top and to be honest there are much nicer sounding guitars out there in a similar price range to what it would have been new. (Anything with a solid top, like my Ibanez AW-30.) But for what it was being my first acoustic guitar, it plays well and gets the job done so I'm glad I have it. It's just that as far as lower end budget guitars go, I'm more partial to Squiers and old Made in USA Peaveys for electric and Ibanez for acoustic. Although I'm sure Washburn makes some good stuff, I'm just not very familiar with their guitars (electrics especially).

 Ibanez Iceman, looked like a Washburn at first glance.

Why is Washburn not a more popular brand for guitars?

Hi Gossamer: I give up - why?

My brother-in-law has owned a US Washburn for decades. Wracking my brains to remember the model: a Straty looking thing with flamed topwood and two splitable humbuckers.

An RX, maybe? I don't know Washburn's model range properly - and maybe others don't either and that's why they're not more popular?

Anyhow, contrary to conventional wisdom those pickups sound pretty fine to my ears when they are split. Very usable Strat type sounds. Though it's the full humbuckers that give the guitar its purpose, to my mind.

Cheers - C

I own just one Washburn and I am quite fond of it. It's a Korean made Model WI-64DL with the controversial Buzz Feiten Tuning System and the Washburn VCC - Voice Contour Control, which lets you blend both or either humbucker back and forth between full HB or full single coil, no limit to possible combinations. It's a solid mahogany set-neck with a beautifully figured maple veneer face and all gold hardware.

It sounds as sweet as it looks and it plays like a dream. It also came with a Washburn hardshell case included. It was a great addition to the collection when I bought it several years ago.

Nice catch that is isn't a Washburn. While the body shape is very similar, the tailpiece isn't quite right and its a flat grey finish. The Paul Stanley's are diamonds, cracked mirrior, whit, or black. The binding isn't quite right either.

Sorry, I had to throw in my KISS knowledge  I'm kind of a big fan. 8)

Very cool fenderflamestrat 8) the Washburn probably does heat up though it would take a pro like Paul to control that, I had a heck of a time with mine.

Er... huh?

One minute this thread was stared by Gossamer, the next he and his post have vanished. What gives - am I missing something?

Cheers - C

Gossamer is a ghost. Spends most of his time in another, parallel universe. Every now and then he overlaps into ours and his posts appear, only to disappear a short while later.
