There are reasons.

When I got back into playing guitar, 3 1/2 years ago, I went to lots of music stores and played everything I could get my hands on. I literally played hundreds of Squiers because they were by far the most affordable ones I saw. Out of those hundreds, 2 played well.

I have now bought 2 Squier strats (and some mim's) and I know the reason. It's because the music stores do not bother to set them up. I bought 2 Affinity strats and they were still set up horribly. No.....listen.....I mean HORRIBLY!!! I did full setups on both. They play a billion percent better. But now I compare what's there and the pickups are now the drawback. They physically play nicely but the pickups don't compare to the mim pickups which in turn don't compare to the us pickups.

I'm actually in the process of selling a squier. I don't hate it, but it's not worth it to me to upgrade pickups. Putting $100 worth of pickups into a guitar that.....well.....let's face it.....won't get more than $50 on craigslist seems a bit silly.
