Older folks? I beg your pardon?

How old do you think I am?

I'm an "Old Fart In Training" perhaps, but I'm not "older" yet. :|

Actually, I guess you're right--I'm an old soul in the sense I like history and old music and old guitars, but not to the exclusion of new music. I like a lot of newer bands--Black Keys, most of Jack White's projects, We Are Brothers?, etc....and I keep up with new bands as they come out.

...and anyway, it seems your favorite bands (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr.) are at least 20 years old, you old coot!

True. And I was just going to say, Dino Jr is from the 80s (and now--but really the 80s).

Me too. I'm 36 and proud of my love of the music of the early 90s. What I ask is, where is the "new Nirvana." I listen to the new pop-punk kids (I like Yellowcard, for example). But--and I'm not saying it's not there, but I just don't know about it yet--where is the new young band w/ a little bit of Nirvana anger? The world has certainly given us enough material since 2001 (e.g., the criminal banking conglomerate getting away with world theft and continuing to harass people w/ their govt printed money).

Whoever said I couldn't be older than 24 was way off. I'm Gen X (but not a slacker--was a nerd and became a lawyer). The people who love Nirvana are 34-40 now (and those new kids who have discovered them of course).

Yeah, I miss 1991-1994 as far as music goes.

By the way, everyone says this, but I listen to 'everything' including a LOT of jazz (Dave Brubeck, NOLA jazz, Benny Goodman, Grant Green) and classical.

Also my new re-love of Nirvana does have to do with the fact that I've owned an electric guitar for exactly 10 months (despite always wanting one since age 18 and never doing anything about it) and right now what I play is Nirvana style "easy" power chord stuff. 8)

I'm only 5 years older than you. I'm of the Gen-X generation, but I didn't/don't adopt or embrace that label.

I remember when grunge hit. On the one hand, I thought, "Good! Anything to get shredders off the front page...." I was never enamored with the spandex and big hair crowd, despite their technical prowess, and the joke had grown weary.
On the other hand, grunge didn't define my musical tastes and desires during that time or any other. I took them for what they were: good songwriters who played guitar with passion. I was busy listening to bands like the Arc Angels, Sue Foley, Fastball, Storyville, Ian Moore and my continuing love for older bands and artists like Joe Ely, ZZ Top, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and bands like that.

Having said that, I checked out the Dinosaur, Jr. links and my overall reaction is: Meh. :|

I've heard worse, and I've certainly heard better. Maybe if I took the time to familiarize myself with the lyrics, I might enjoy it more, but overall Mascis just seems like the prototype vs. 1.0 of Corgan and Cobain (especially on guitar)...which makes me understand why you like him.

Just MHO.

Armadillo, check out Farm and Beyond.... IMO far better than anything the band put out in their original run.

Will do...I haven't written them off, and I see his originality, but the links I saw were :? :| .

The Armadillo Hath Not Spoken...yet!

There's still time for me to change my mind.

You need to look harder. Yellowcard is a #$@*&!% abysmal example of where punk rock is right now. It's a vibrant, fantastic scene. Some bands to get you started you should enjoy:

Against Me!(particularly Reinventing Axl Rose and Searching for a Former Clarity)
Strike Anywhere
Cobra Skulls
Propagandhi
Defiance, OH
VersaEmerge
Strung Out
Rise Against
The Measure[SA]
Anti-Flag
I Object!
The Creepshow
Flatfoot 56
Las Robertas
Hamburger Help Me
Rumspringer

What's the deal with this dude? Three name changes, ten threads (all touting marginal guitarists as "greatest ever") and then he disappears, deleting OPs and reappearing. I even tried to humor he guy, he just wouldn't quit.
