FWIW, musicologists believe it was Tommy Johnson and not Robert Johnson that began the story of selling his soul at the crossroads at midnight to become skilled at guitar.

As for my soul, I would not sell it, however, after payment of an agreed upon cap reduction deposit I would execute a 36-month lease.

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"

Well... he would get the world. That's a pretty big profit right there. Think of all the strats you would have ;-)

One's soul is the only "thing" one is given to have, for eternity.

That makes any sale/trade...short term gain deal...

...very, very undesirable....

I thought that it was Ray Jay Johnson, of the "you can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay, or you can call me RJ, or....." fame. If it was him, he got ripped-off.

Nevin wanted to sell his soul but the devil couldn't afford the cost.

Nah...the satisfaction of doing something well stems from the knowledge of all the hard work you put in to get good at it. I wouldn't be happy being a rich and famous world-class guitar player if I knew I took a supernatural shortcut in order to get there.

The eternal damnation thing would be a bit of a drawback, too...

I don't really believe in the whole soul thing, so yes.
Mind you, I'd never sell my funk.
