The mustang w/ factory specs has no sustain and a very weak sound. It really is an "intro" guitar even though some legends made it famous. I guess it's good for a '60s Beach Boys clean sound, and actually it does have a kind of nice clean toan, even though Nirvana etc. made it famous for distorted rock. But Kurt was not playing the factory 2 single coils version, that's for sure.

Do you know what you callt hat? It's called an opinion. Honestly, I can't stand any strats. That's my opinion. You have yours, I have mine.

Floyd saying the Clapton strat is not worth buying is kind of a bold statement. The clapton sig has nothing to do with it. The guitar itself is a great instrument.

Again, I really don't care for strats... they just bore me....

You're obviously not playing it right if you can't get sustain or strength out of it, or your amp isn't a good match for it. I had an original 1964 Mustang...great, snarly tone, good sustain, even though the pickups were weaker than my other guitarts. It was significantly lighter (in weight and tone) than my G&L Nighthawk or G&L F-100, but that wasn't a bad thing. I only sold it because it has the small profile neck (I think it's called the "A" profile, if I'm not mistaken, and I might be) and it was too small for my hands.

Thanks. Indeed I do play it through a 15W Line 6 amp at low volume in an apartment while worrying about whether I'm bothering the neighbors. So perhaps there's hope. But then again, I play my other guitars through the same amp at low volume and it manages to--and I know I'll get slammed for this--replicate a good sound even at low volume (so I can kind of still judge the guitar's sound and imagine what it would sound like louder). Heck, I also have a $155.00 "Oscar Schmidt by Washburn" (Chinese made copy of Washburn Idol) (my first ever starter guitar) and it seems to blow away the Mustang. (Same re my $120.00 Silvertone Strat copy!) I'm still glad to own the mustang and I have hope for it--just sayin'.[/quote]

Mustang pickups are VERY low output. Keeping the volume low will give it balls for tone.

Knopler strat is pretty good (not because of the artist too) and the Buddy Guy series...

How about the Am. Deluxe HSS strat? Man I would like one of those...
