Congrats TGS! I'll see you at the HOB for the Grand Finale  I decided to stop at GC yesterday and try it out, there were no open slot but I guess someone didn't show so I was able to compete... 2 of us got picked out of 10, I thought my playing sucked :? I didn't take a Fender though, maybe that's why I won :D I'll practice for the next round!

Some of the guys I saw dident get a fair shake. poor backup, poor quality sound, one pore guy had his sound quit twice. you could see the disapointment in his face not cool. the tech had even walked away.

IF GUITAR CENTER is going to hold a contest, "FOR THE BEST" I think it should be run by someone that cares, and not some RINKIDINK clerk with his thumb in his A@$%.
Just my openion  :) -------Danny,

Unfortunately not, but there were some people there using their phones to film the competitors, I'll ask around...

My local GC store did a great job! Everyone got plenty of time to setup and the sound was good enough, unless someone decided to turn their amp really loud... one did actually, but that person didn't belong in the competition at all!

You're entitled to your own opinion of course, but not all GC stores are the same IMO.

There were lots of technical problems at the one I was at too. None of the cables worked (surprise!) so several contestants actually borrowed mine. The Fender Deluxe also didn't work at all, so they had to take it away and grab another Deluxe instead. But overall, they really did try to fix things and they provided a working amp and cables so it worked out.

geez, so much for a quality sound check. not like there is a ton of gear to go over a couple hours before the show.

Congrats and good luck TGS, Cedarblues and bluesstratatone. I'm feeling a little out of the loop(maybe because the don't have any Guitar Centers around here (our local chain is Long and McQuade) anywho best of luck to all of you and don't get bummed if perchance you dont get crowned King (or Queen) of the Blues...

Well, I played earlier tonight in my prelim. It was actually the toughest competition I've ever seen in this contest, I'd say there were more really good players there tonight than there were in the District Finals I competed in two years ago. One of the guys was a fairly well known blues player around town, he has his own band and plays real gigs often. In fact, I've tried to get into his shows but I was turned away since I'm not over 21. And everyone was fairly good overall.

I think I actually played my best this year, which felt good. The first year I was scared to death and last year I let nerves get the better of me and played super sloppy. This year I'm about 100 gigs more experienced and even though I still felt like I was rushing in a couple of places, I was still happy with how I played. :) Apparently the judges were too, because I'm off to the store finals in two weeks! :D Honestly, any number of players could have won tonight so I'm extra thankful I got through.

Yes, there is a video, and yes there is an audio recording but I'm keeping it secret until after I lose. I don't want people getting any ideas from it. But as soon I can I'll get it up on youtube so that y'all can see it.

(Oh yeah, and while I was there I played all the new guitars from the Pawn Shop series. I totally loved the '72 semi-hollow Strat with humbuckers and the '51 Strat. On the one with the Mustang body I loved the neck, but the body shape felt weird since I'm really comfortable with my Strat. It was also very neck heavy, the body was really light in comparison so the neck felt like it wanted to dive.)

Is it this week Texas?

Sure is, this Thursday. It's too bad I ruined my weekend with a cold. They're not fun in the winter, and they're especially not fun when it's 99 degrees outside. :x It kinda messed up my practice plans, but I'm just going to have to step on it for the rest of the week to get back up to speed. I think I'll be all right by Thursday. :)
