The blues jr. is def. a good choice.
I would offer the guy $300 and see what he says.

Other small amps to look at
Pro jr (1x10 15w)
Vox actv4 (1x10 4w)
Blackheart Little Giant (1x12 5w)

That's a good price and a nice amp. I don't own one (yet) but I've played through them on more than one occasion and I dig it. 8)

Actually, I think I've only played the new one. We used to have one at the shop were I work, so I played it fairly often. It sold last week. :(

danny

i also like the valve jr by epiphone. great tones at a very affordable price.
if you really want to rock your world and keep it affordable, all the while
wanting lots of options and bang for the buck, this amp is unbelievable.

or go for its bigger brother,

both of these amps can be found used at a very good price.
you cant go wrong with either. dont matter which one you get, you
will want the other one too lol.

1. I can actually carry it. Well, I can carry my Deluxe VM too, it's just not easy and if I have to carry it up a flight of stairs or a couple of blocks down the street (which happens) then I wake up feeling it the next day, you know?

2. I'm not a loud player, I think too loud is actually annoying. Sometimes it's unavoidable if it's a large venue or if your drummer likes to pound away at his drums like a jackhammer. But if neither of those things are the case, a Blues Junior would be great. Plus you could always mic it. And for open mics/coffee shop type gigs it you wouldn't have to worry about that.

3. It sounds really nice. I like the sound of cranked tube amps, but like I said before too loud can be annoying. I can get good crunch out of the Blues Junior with no pedals or earplugs needed. It's tone is also nice and warm, I find some small tube amps tend to sound a bit more on the bright/tinny side.

now should you get the chance, put a fulltone OCD with that blues jr and tell me what ya think. it will warp your mind. try it with a tele too. the tele, OCD, and the blues jr, somehow they were made to be played together i swear it. try it and keep me posted on your thoughts. this will be very interesting.

HEy DAnny, wish I could get a Blues JUnior for that price!!!!!!!!

Way cool is right, though, check out the Epiphones. I have two valve juniors, one stock and one with the Frommell upgrades. They are sooooooooooo cheap and can be completely upgraded fora couple of hundred dollars.
If you go for the head and a cab, the low volume becomes much less of an issue.

I think the Blues Junior is pretty restricted to a blues and rock sound, exactly what I want but I know some folks who find it too restrictive.

There's also the Vox Lil NIghtrain head and cab which can be picked up 2nd hand for around the same price too.

IN fact, I think the 'small' tube amp market is pretty flooded at the moment with many, many quality products. SO if you want a small, home amp that can be upgraded, go for the Epiphones (remember there are many 'versions' of that amp too - Harley Benton/Grainger etc - that are all the same amp with different 'packaging'. THe mini stacks are all, generally, pretty darn great value for money.

Let us know what you go for and if you get the Blues Junior.........don't post as I will be extremely jealous of the price you paid.................. :D
