There is some good rock music being put out now (e.g., Cage the Elephant--their 2nd album is really really good), but it is disappointing, to say the least, that there are not more covers of Nirvana songs.

In fact, I propose a new federal law: any new album in the genre of "rock" or "alternative" must include at least one Nirvana cover.

I mean, Kurt gave us approximatley 93 amazing songs from which to choose, right? Is that asking too much?

I might have a small Nirvana obsession, but like John Lennon and Kurt Cobain said: I'm not the only one.

Rock on!
: )

i like to cover 90's songs too but i wouldn't change a thing on nirvana songs i'm currently working on a marcy playground cover though not sure how it'll turn out but i'm trying to make it more speedy

TC, you should look up some of the bands that influenced the ones you've been jamming down our throats... They're usually pretty damn awesome!

Hell, I discovered basically EVERYTHING I now listen tot through Nirvana and other "grunge" bands of the 90s. You should ALWAYS be looking to expand your music collection, there's not such thing as too much music. 8)

Some bands you may like:
Mudhoney
The Melvins
Black Flag
Flipper
The Jesus Lizard
Big Black
Shellac
Butthole Surfers (based on your current tastes, I'd recommend starting with Independent Worm Saloon)
Pixies
The Wipers
Children Collide (new band, shown to me by another user here)
Descendents, the album Milo Goes To College in particular
Helmet
Husker Du

If you like any of those, feel free to PM me and I can gladly recommend more 8)

Agreed. Don't forget Dinosaur Jr.

And what I'm talking about in this topic is respect. Respect for Kurt Cobain the Master. He took his influences to a never-before-seen level, but yet he constantly gave credit to and mentioned his influences, both historical and contemporary "competitors." In fact, he always acted as if his favorite bands were more important than his own music. As everyone knows, he did a lot of covers, both on albums, live, and of course in the famous unplugged show. Where are the people covering Nirvana now?

Now what we need today is for all the young rock musicians--who have been influenced by Nirvana whether they know it or will admit it or not--to pay Kurt a little bit of respect, because they owe him a debt of gratitude.

I'm not saying I admire Kurt as a person. I can't believe he did what he did when he had a baby daughter. I'm simply talking 100% about the music.

Heck, Pixies still have a career because of Kurt joking that he was just trying to copy them. Meat Puppets. Etc. They are good on their own, but I'm just sayin'.

Plenty of bands cover them, just not on their records. I prefer it that way.

You may also like the first 3 Offspring albums, if you don't already have them.

Music is the common thing that keeps us guys togather, and in my opinion all the bands and individuals Nirvana, Hendrix, and all the others alike, will no doute go down in music history as the ones that forged the 20th. and 21st. century music mindset. They will, with the help of the newcomers, lead us down the path to what comes next.
Keep the debate going guys, I love it. and its good for MUSIC. :) :)

So to sum things up: everyone agrees with me that there should be a federal law requiring at least one Nirvana cover on all albums in the "rock" and "alternative" genres.

Sweet.

No. They really weren't as good as you're making them out to be. Am I a fan? Yes. Do I act like Cobain was some god among men? No. Because he wasn't. And he really wasn't kidding when he said half of his music was ripping off the Pixies. It was, and he was doing so intentionally. He also plagiarized a Killing Joke song for Come As You Are and Milk It is ripped off from The Melvins' It's Shoved. He was talented, not a god.

Because someone who kills themselves is clearly mentally healthy.

Extremely selfish bastard, if u want a good Nirvana cover look up Of Montreal and Andrew VanWyngardens cover of SLTS, or Rise Against cover of Sliver, i say no nirvana covers, it only inspire more bands to look back instead of looking ahead, im not against knowing your history, its just there are a lot of bands who still arent out of the 90s alt rock thing, pulls us out of alternative and go David Bowie again, we need another Bowie, someone whose not afraid to do whatever they want and make big rock songs

Kurt would be offended by the thought of this law. He was always trying to be himself, without the limitations others put on guitarists and songwriters. He covered the people he wanted to cover and ignored the rest. He would have called you a douchebag for suggesting such a thing, even in jest.
