$@!& all this perfect sound bullshit. Turn it up and put some soul in it, some of the best music ever created was by accident. Perfection is boring.

Want perfect intonation?

Go fretless and be really good.

Hey nikininja, does that first wavy fret match up with the pattern of your compensated nut?

They don't correct the real problem, just mask over it. The seat of the problem is the modern tempered music scale is wrong. All that (and most other systems) do is offer a alternative incorrectness.

Yep, it's roughly the same shape.

Though my nut was a further compromise. Focused on getting a decent degree of accuracy out of the first four frets. So what you gain on one fret you potentially lose on another. A bit of a balancing act that I've pretty much given up on. If I can't get perfection, then I don't want to know.

This is the only accurate fretboard.

I did have a vain hope to twist Ceri's arm up his back to take me to Andy's, where if lucky, I could try such a beast. Sadly, Andy's is no more.

Ooo - you'd never have to twist my arm. It would be an honor and a pleasure to accompany you to any music shop of your choosing! :D

What is that "only accurate fretboard"? Is an example to be found anywhere else? Andy's was nice, in a messy kind of a way. But it was hardly the only guitar shop in town.

BTW. Regarding the bendy frets, I've got two serious points. I've never tried either them or the fan shaped ones, and I'd love to give both a go, if only for my ears and fingers to see how they perform in real life.

The other thing is, I do really wonder how on earth the slots are cut for the true temperament frets? If anyone knows I'd be fascinated to hear. I'm guessing a tiny computer guided router head comes into it - I just can't imagine how it could be done by hand by anyone less than a master inlay expert. And that ain't practical.

For that matter, I wonder how they make the frets?

Cheers - C

Or how they crown them?

Imagine how mortified you'd be as a average Joe to find you'd worn flat spots in those frets.

Cripes, yes! There still isn't a CNC machine that can crown frets; it must be done by hand. What a job!

:) here's the other part Ceri, apparently each fret is formed in an individual mould

You would think that they would use a compensated nut so the first fret did not have to be so far out. My first thought is not to like this.

My first re-fret job looked a bit like those............................

I just think it looks, aesthetically, shoddy and I wouldn't spend the $800 dollars or whatever on a neck that looked a bit, well, crap................... :?
