Well hockey fans, it looks as though NHL light may finally be shining down again on Winnipeg. Reports indicate that there is a VERY good chance of the relocation of the Atlanta Trashers to Winnipeg materializing, with an announcement coming as early as next week.

As one of few forum Winnipeggers I am absolutely ecstatic about this! The Winnipeg Jets have been nothing more than a legend to me. They parted Winnipeg in 1996 due to management issues when I was just 8 years old. I hadn't yet been to a game.

I have always been a hockey fan and just the thought of the possiblility of being able to watch NHL home games in my city has me in a stupor of happiness. There would also be some personal fulfillment in finally being able to catch my first Jets game - should that be what the team would be named (which I believe it should).

Thanks to you all for letting me feed my excitedness a little more.

[EDIT 5/31/11] Done deal ladies and gents. It's been a pleasure, Atlanta

Never went to a pro game but love the sport. when I was small my Dad would take me with him to our local games in Tacoma, Wa. teams like Portland, Olympia, and Seattle, were playing. It was still exciting. Lots of fights.  . I Would love to see a good game now.

I'm hoping the deal with the Winnipeg ownership group can be completed. The Jets should never have left in the first place, and I'm certain pro hockey will be more successful in Manitoba than it's been in Georgia.

Any word if that big picture of Queen Elizabeth II they used to hang from the rafters at the arena will be brought out of storage (just joking...)?

i'm happy for you. i remember when the northstars came to dallas. hell, we had to learn the game of hockey. i even joined a team playing on rollerblades. we both enjoy the game of hockey. lately i've lost my passion for watching pro sports. but thats another thread i suppose.

+1

As for Queen Elizabeth, she may have gone down when they demolished the Winnipeg Arena
I wouldn't mind having her back though if it meant having an NHL franchise.

Manitoba sucks. Saskatchistan could support a team if we had a building they could play in.

Rumor has it Saskatchewan will inherit Winnipegs AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose (affiliate of Vancouver Canucks). Don't discredit the Moose, though. They've given rise to some excellent players, including cup-contenders Ryan Kesler and backup goalie Corey Schneider, who by the way had a fantastic record during the regular season whenever Luongo was awarded the night off. Schneider also led the Moose to the Calder Cup Final last AHL season.

The $@!&#* thing about this is that The Jets are staying int he Southeast for now, so it means all of their road games will be like 4000 miles(or about 6000 kilometers Canadian) trips.

Winnipeg deserves an NHL team. Go jets!
Here in Toronto land I can't get as excited about NHL. My son and son-in-law are die hard fans, the season ends for them when the leafs are done, early March.
