I don't know how they sounded when you heard them RJ but I'll bet they were a lot better than the stuff on record, because the stage always was their element.

+1

Their album was in rotation out in the bay area, but with only one track receiving airplay in the Sacramento market. The event was outdoors at the Sac City College stadium (Country Joe et al, QMS, Jeff 'Plane also played) and I think Hourglass played only two or three songs from the record. The remainder of their set was blues-oriented rock plus an early 'beta version' of "Revival".

Man! wish I had been there! you really got to see some great acts back then...that was the melting pot for a lot of styles that emerged into the music the late '60s is known for.
Here in the Nashville area and the South in general it wasn't happening on that scale.
I married and moved to the Atlanta area in '72 and it was more rockin',with the Brothers in the lead.
I know I talked about Duane and the guys a lot in this thread, but he has been a legendary figure here in the South as far as music goes. The county I live in is where the Allman family lived, his dad and grandparents,Nashville was where they were born and lived much of their childhood before moving to Fla.
He is one of our own,a Southern boy who made it big...but like Gregg said,he didn't get rich.
here he is one of the "guitar gods"...without Duane Allman,Layla wouldn't be what it was and Eric Clapton, bless his heart, doesn't give our hero as much credit as he deserves....but that's fine, his music still stands on it's own...and Duane Allman was one of us!
I'll get down from the podium now. 8)

I saw Clapton in 1991 on the Journeyman Tour. It was fantastic. I also saw him two night in a row in 1994 on his "Nothing but the Blues "tour. Both night were awesome.
I have the video of most of the show on the first night. Priceless!
I have a friend that has seen him check his mail and saw him jogging in Columbus, Ohio.
My friend lives sort of next to him in Columbus. He said Clapton seems to be a very nice guy. He just doesn't lke to be photographed or sign autographs anymore. After all these years of being "watched", I can understand why he just wants to be a "regular" guy.

Been going to Clapton concerts for over 40 years! Never fails to impress.
Rumor had it that he was in town the night in '75 that George Harrison played the Boston Garden (went to that too) . Lots of talk on the local radio station, WBCN, that he would show up and do a couple of tunes. Never happened. THAT would have torn the roof off the place!

As for ticket prices, I have 2 tickets for The Beatles when they played Suffolk Downs ( a race track here in Boston) at $4.50 a ticket. I've tried to hold on to all of my ticket stubs thru the years. Lots of Who and Stones, Zepplin and others..I swore I would stop going to concerts when they broke the $20 barrier...well...that never happened either!

I'm going to see Clapton tonight, as it happens. I don't want to admit how much the tickets cost! :?

well how much are they?

Much.

Hi again WCjr: well, I couldn't answer that question properly earlier today because the tickets were bought by Mrs C and she didn't tell me the price. And I still can't tell you, because this evening they turned out to be "VIP" (ha-ha) Hospitality Tickets and they obviously cost so damn much they were too embarrassed to print the figure on the ticket. Look:

Much wine and dolls food later we staggered out the hospitality suite and went in and saw this show:

And in case you think our pricy seats were not near enough to the front I took this series of pictures to show our position in the RAH. Eric in the bottom left corner:

Hi Butch: I strongly suggest you do. Aged 198 or whatever he is now that boy is currently playing like something from another dimension. Dunno if it was the wine or what but this show was flippin' heavenly! What fingers! What tone!

Turns out Clapton is God - who knew? 8)

Wow Ceri the gig looked awesome!!!

I saw EC at the Royal ALbert Hall a couple of years back and was sitting just a few rows back from where you were by the looks of it.
I still get shivers when I look at the photos and vids I took cos he just blew me aaway. ONe of those artists you HAVE to see live to see he is still as driven and creative as ever!!!!!

Next time MRs C gets you tickets like that.....take me instead of her........ :D

Pappa, I think we should have a Forum outing. We'll hire one of those lower tier boxes at the RAH and a bunch of us go along and show that audience how to enjoy a gig in the proper style. 8)

Yes seriously, it would.

I've been to gigs and done other stuff with people I've met on this Forum. They know who they are. It's been great every time - so far on two continents. I'm always up for these things! Rock on! :D

I've seen Clapton probably ten times..the first was the "Journeyman" tour and the most recent was a few years ago at the Dallas Crossroads festival.

What's interesting is how good some of the songs I hated (on record) sounded when he played them live. I detested a good portion of the "Pilgrim" album, but all of the songs I disliked from that disc sounded wonderful live...of course, he had Babyface produce that disc and I hate Babyface's perfect-but-soulless techniques.

I can't wait to see Clapton again--next time I'm going to take the Armadillo Child, so she can experience him first-hand.
