Authentic delta blues sound.......buy the cheapest, crappiest acoustic guitar you can and string it with the thickest strings you can find! Tune the guitar to the open tuning of your choice and grab a slide!!!!! Seriously though.......have you ever tried electric guitar strings on your acoustic? ;) Give it a try! Bends will be easier too! :D

You know your origonal statment most acuretly describes(True old Delta Blues) Most of the guitars were old, damp, worped, hand me downs, with anything from bailing wire to fishing line for strings. And yet they got some prity good music out of them. once in a whial some city boy would introduce some new timber into the mix but not very often. and then someone would get him into a good old game of dominos, and take it away from him. The old slides were usually medicen botels or something that would fit on your finger. My Grandpa used a magnet out of a cow's stomich. Worked just fine and when he'd get done he would stick it to the stove. ------------True, Story Georgia 1947

+1 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Real, original early blues was so, so often generated by earnest people who had been kicked in the everywhere by life and the times and their lives intruded upon by some people who were at best discriminatatory, at worst, evil, afs-hose.

The cheapest guitar, the cheapest strings, remember your saddest moments. Or remember theirs and sing the blues for humanity.

Soapbox moment:
Often, this picker finds modern "blues" players well beyond pathetic poseurs, with great equipment, great health, great chops, jobs, homes, laws to protect them, full stomachs...

...that's all. Thanks for putting up with the rant-lite.

Electric strings will be easier to bend, but your tone will be too thin and "zingy".

As noted before, get some heavy strings and then tune it either open (Open G, Open D were two favorites back in the day) or tune it one tone below standard (so you can bend the strings and there won't be so much tension on the neck).

As always, it's not just the equipment, it's how you play that helps get that tone.

BTW, I use Dean Markley Bronze Acoustic strings and get a really great tone for everything-not just blues.

The open tuning, finger picked slide sound is as hard to do as anything and make it sound authentic.I really like to hear it on an old National or Dobro.
Listen to alot of those old guys, and there's a challenge to sound like any one of the good ones.
