Usually my won fingermails, but when I use a flatfick, I prefer the buffalo horn.
It is a thick pick, but once you get use to it, it plays like buter!

As a melodic guitarist, thins and mediums are largely a no-no.

Fender Heavy, traditional shape, for just jiving around and practice.

and for varied tone variations (yes, they make a difference)

Coconut (soft)
Pecan (round sound)
Cattle horn (great for country ballads, no harshness)
Turtle shell (about 35 years old, the best for melodic soft, precise jazz)
Ebony (good for cisp but woody)
Rosewood (much the same as ebony, but les harsh)
Camel bone (very clean, precise)

And for bass...fingers

Dunlop thumb picks forever. I had my doubts, but now I can't come to grips with using any other kind.

I used red Tortex for the longest, but now I'm using the M-L Dunlop gels (the green ones).

I used to not care about picks very much.

I do now.

Got me a 7th generation Swiss jeweler to grind up some titanium and inlay 47 carats of diamond on that bad boy.

.79mm of teh brutalz yo'.

Only cost 1.3 million dollars an' I got Jay-Z to pay for it. Cuz I'm cool like that.

Fender 351 Medium tortoise shell.
I have some of those buffalo horn picks, they're smooth but a little too thick for me.

Almost anything that isn't too slippery and too heavy. I go from extra light to medium.

I like the yellow Dunlop 73mm also, but my very favorite is one of the V-Picks that I heard about on the TrueFire.com guitar instruction forum. The V-Pick is super thick and made of a substance that sort of sticks to your fingers. Here is a link to their web page. I have never seen them in stores.
My favorite is the screamer. They are a little expensive, but I think they are worth the money.
