Not to take away from anyone elces idea. I agree that making a gift of something is a good deal provided it gose to a deserving person. Like everyone is saying, a school or church would be a good place to start. Last sumer in Seattle someone broke into a local park storage locker where a small group of kids practised on all kinds of musical instruments, all donated by the puplic. the theaves got away with everything. The volinteer Directors of the program put out a cry on local TV. The instruments and gear were replaced over night. Would it be cool or what, if all Fender Forum Members that could affoard it, would DONATE something, and as a group, give it away to a deserving school or church. We could all submit an idea, and deside by popular vote. Once we decided on our target group, we of coars would be responsible for FRT.to get our gift to our new friends. :)

why in the world donate to a charity that every other group or function is already giving to? makes no sense to me. so many groups already donate to local schools, not to mention our tax's and lotto monies. every time they raise our tax's around here they use the school system as the excuse.
as for the church's, man thats where a huge percentage of tax writeoff's already go to.
the church's need to get more of their people to read malachi 3:10 is how they should handle that. big charities already have thousands upon thousands given to them anually, if not mulit millions depending on the charity.
why give it to a charity at all? why not just walk up and give it to someone?
why not give it to where you know it will be used instead of setting in some storage place somewhere? 90% of my charity work goes directly to the one its intended to help.
i skip the middle man and his/her skimming off the top. i would much rather see the rewards of my actions than to not know whom it is that i just gave a hand up to.
sorry danny my friend, i just dont see the point in big charity giving when everybody else is already doing it bro. there are so many little and forgotten charities and people that get over shadowed by the bigger charities, that just end up being forgotten about.

Great plan Nevin, how about an occupational therapy connection? Some place using guitar as a tool for post op. rehab? Just thinking out loud, what with your hospital connection and all.

Cheers,

Nevin...what a fantastic idea :D ...some great ideas have been posted, but like the idea of giving it someone down on his/her luck...there has got to be someone out there deserving of or in need of an act of kindness like this one.

bingo. there is a reward in itself seeing someone's face light up
when such an act of kindness is extended to them. its priceless.
you cant get that by going through a middle man.

I have been thinking about giving away one of my guitars to someone deserving. I have not figured out the criteria of selection yet. I think it would be cool. I have a few that I am not really making use of. I could use a few good deeds to balance out my karma. Hah.

But how to do it?

Another idea that I have had for years but never did was buying a new guitar and loaning it out / getting it autographed and then auction it for local charity. I think I could round up some pretty big names. It is just hard to convince folks that it is for charity unless you have the endorsement beforehand and can prove it.

 There is a forum mate(one of our G.I's) in Irack having trouble getting something to play he has a Chp. guitar thats broken. Might be a target for your givaway. his Forum name is CEALLACH. Just an idea. :)

Good idea. My experience is that the opportunity will present itself and you will know; just be ready. I have had the great priviledge of doing a number of good deeds and it has always been worth it. I have also missed some chances. I'm not sure you can screen potential recipients but it would be nice to know that you gift would be cherished.
