Amazing! What a great band. Derek has some of the best tone i've ever heard. Susans voice is great as well.

Not a leno fan, but sat through the whole episode to catch them perform. well worth it!

I like both of them but not a huge fan of Susan.
I met Derek at a club in Murfreesboro,Tn. once when he played there,he was about 18 years old I guess, but he seemed like a quiet guy,he was nice though. He can play!

I like them both.

Not to blow you up, Way Cool, but how is she a coattail rider?

She had her own band and was famous before she married Derek Trucks. She was well-known outside the guitar community (meaning, the average blues/rock listener knew who she was, but only guitarists had heard of Butch Trucks' nephew with the killer slide skills). Even now, I think she's probably a bit better known than him by the general public (that's discounting ABB fans and guitarists).

I'll give you that she's not the greatest guitarist in the world, but in the words of Muddy Waters, "You don't have to be the best one; just be a good 'un." She's not flashy or fiery, but her playing fits her songs and her band. I think of her as a good "complementary" guitarist who makes a song work better, rather than a force of nature like her husband or a SRV-type guitarist.

Also, she's a strong vocalist with a lot of soul and style. The only thing I have against her is the vocals on Led Zeppelin's "Rock & Roll" (from the Double Trouble "Been A Long Time" CD); I just didn't care for her interpretation...but she made up for it with her performance on that same CD with "In The Garden."

Double Trouble backed her up on her discs and on her tours before; I think those guys have great integrity and wouldn't back up just anybody, only people they (1) respect musically and (2) like personally.

When Sue first started going to the blues jams many moons ago, she would get shunned because her family was wealthy and owned the Tedeschi Market chain. It's nice to see that she's found a way to better her performing and now those people that used to look down at her are buying her music and show tix.

Trucks is just amazing. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, so to speak.

I DVR'd the show last night and haven't seen it yet. I just hate that Leno wastes 99% of the show with some really loser guests and then gives a top notch band 5 minutes to perform at the end of the show (Jeff Beck/Imelda May were on a few weeks ago. Great 5 minute performance). I like both Susan and Derek. I really enjoy their "Crossroads" performances and have Susan's last CD which is really good.

Being an Allman Brothers fan since '69,I had seen pics of Derek when he was about 8 or 9 years old jamming with those guys, but it was several years later when I saw some stuff on youtube of him around that age or a little later, the kid could rip it up.
I had seen Susan on stage somewhere before her and Derek got together, and like Armadillo said she was established then,or well on her way.
To be honest as much as I like the blues, lots of women blues singers sound too harsh for me,she is kind of one of them.
For a woman who sings the blues, give Tracy Nelson a listen sometime....she's a friend of mine and I have been impressed with her story before I ever met her,I think she did the Monterrey Festival when Jimi did it....also Bonnie Bramlett, another great one,and her daughter Bekka.

SA, she didnt start her first band until 1994. started dating derek in 1998.
in 1999 she started working with sara mclachlan, a good friend of dereks.
she had 1 album released before that and was only released locally to
boston and surrounding area. she didnt have squat going on until derek hit the
scene bro. just a local act. only then the big, if you can call it big, draw to her
group was her guitarist Sean Costello, who was already a national touring guitarist
with his band before. he was found dead here in town a few yrs ago from a accidental drug OD.
no, she wasnt anything to write home about until derek started pushing his girlfriend to all his famous buddies. still aint nothing to write home about but...........
kind of a rags to riches story for a less than performer wouldnt you think?

I have to agree with Way Cool here--Tedeshi has a really good voice, but she ain't no Bonnie Raitt...Bonnie's in her own category in my mind.

However, I have to disagree about the coattail thing; even if she was given the boost by her association with Trucks, MacLaughlan and others, she still has her own bag and it ain't empty.

aint a whole lot worth anything in that bag either. the only reason shes on the clapton
dvd's is who her husband is. shes not even close to being in the same league as everybody else on those dvds.
