My adventures into cheapo guitars continues and, $@!& it makes me miss my Fenders, Guilds, and Gibsons at home.

So I visited a local Arab Bazaar and grabbed a single cutaway acoustic. It's handmade, everything is really unique on it, whatever material that was used on the nut is also used for the tuning knobs and on the bridge, it's crafted from a powerful smelling wood, has a really dark fretboard with an interesting grain, god knows what either are, and has الفأس on the headstock. It cost me the equivalent of $9, so I wasn't really expecting much.

That being said it has atrocious buzzing on the first and second frets, making anything on those two absolutely unplayable. I'm thinking it might be a high third fret, but I'm no expert. I don't have a ton of hope of getting this thing in playing order, but hopefully.

Try the credit card trick, run a card along the fretboard any high frets will give it a rocking motion. Does the guitar have an adjustable truss rod? If so give it a little more relief. hth.

Buzzing on frets close to the nut could indicate a nut cut too deep. You could build up the nut with some shims etc.

+1

Incorrectly-slotted nut.
