funny thing is, if you try to do one of his covers, your gonna have to lace up with 3 strings only. no way to mute the others lol. i like doghouse blues. i need to buy a junker and try it.

Just build a cigar box guitar............I play them sometimes and they make that sounds naturally.

I don't take away from his ability and his talent but it's pretty hard to screw up cigar box blues if you know guitar!!!!

Saying that I have seen him playing a 'complete' guitar and he kicks $@! on that too.....he is just awesome!! 8) 8)

business. has had them and used them for yrs.

Whatever he is, he has John Paul Jones playing bass for him in this clip from British TV just recently. (Bass could be a little louder in the mix and if you thought the drummer was having a flashback before, wait til you see the end of this song.) A friend of mine from the UK posted it in another guitar forum this morning.

@ way cool jr
Yes, indeed. I think he was the most under rated one of the bunch and he contributed so much to their sound (including the recorder overdubs in that song that is forbidded to be played in guitar stores).

Wow, just heard this guy for the first time, gimmick or not it's catchy.

I've never touched a cigar box guitar so no idea what that's all about, liked this though.

:) That silly one string gimmick is just a toy, Bit you know thats all some folks had. The man is the epitome of what I learned to be true Blues. He reminds me of my Grandpa setting out on the front porch down in Georgia in 1947. He makes that old Flat Top sound as though it was Music coming from angels. Did you here him doing "Lonesome"? And ya He's been around for a long time. :)

A one off. And brilliant. Absolutely the canine's reproductive organs.

Saw him for the first time on his debut appearance in the UK on Jools Holland's show. I thought who the hell is this hobo with his 3 string dumpster guitar? Then he played a number and I was blown away.

He is the real deal. A true musical son of America, with his wonderful blend of rootsy country blues. If the US guys here at least haven't taken him to their hearts, then there's something wrong somewhere. He has substantial following here in Great Britain.

We all spend hours here neuroticising about the right guitar and the right amp, and he just picks up a piece of junk, tapes a pickup on with gaffa and does the business. He is the total antidote to musical pomposity and artifice. The world needs Seasick Steve. His is a completely honest voice, even if we accept the hobo routine with a pinch of salt.

Great sense of humour and humility too. Genuinely doesn't seem to understand the fuss and is amazed to have finally got his break in his 60s.. What a guy..

"I started out with nothing, and I still got most of it left..!!" Genius.. 8) :D

the funny thing about seasick steve is he comes across as a long time hobo that finally got his break. thats totally untrue. hes been a sessions musician and studio engineer pretty much his whole life. hes even been a producer at some points in his life.
so im guessing that hes never really been hurting for to long anyways. the hobo gimmick has payed off for him. there are parts he doesnt tell isnt there? lol it would ruin the hobo image.

And here's my fave..

Steve in action with his Mississippi Stomp Box and a couple of irrelevant Girlie BVs. Unusually his skip diver guitar seems to have virtually a full compliment of strings.. what a sell out lol!
