Looks to me like you've had one of those I'm not drunk episodes, you know the ones where your sitting at the bar being perfectly lucid the you step off the bar stool and your legs give way, strange strange feeling your body's smashed but your head aint. :)

HA HA.. you are right to laugh. the fact that i am not only NOT in a band but already preparing to be to drunk to play is quite humorous. i will say generally i run hard as i am drinking then keep going through out the night but tonight i just picked it up and felt like hell. funny, i can type fine (graphic artist for 15 years). bottom line is i need to play MORE MORE MORE!!!

I think I sound like SRV when I have a beer or two, but reality is I am much better sober. The problem is I still sound like I'm drunk

As a bandleader, fines are imposed for players that are under the influence
and cannot play (you can tell!) for a few times and if it keeps recurring it's
replacement time. It's only rock n roll, but it's earning a living too.

I've seen some good 'players' go down because of booze, smack, etc. It's really too bad because some were extremely talented.

Sure lots of times. Not anymore. I'm 209 days sober and my playing is better than ever. Think about it.

I refuse to play with drunks, potheads, or pill-poppers. They can make an entire band look like asshats. There are too many other clean-and-sober musicians just waiting for an opportunity to demonstrate their proficiency.

Never. I've been a guitar player since 1963, but I've never had a drink, never had a smoke, never had a toke, never used recreational drugs. I'm straighter than a plumb line.

I spent 13 months in Vietnam and I never used, drank or smoked over there either. In fact, I was the original Designated Driver - used to spend a lot of my time getting my totally plowed hoochmates back to where they belonged at night.

I've also been married for 41 years and never cheated on my wife - had plenty of chances in the heavy schedule band days, too.

Guys I play with ask me, how can you even be a musician..? I have a very low tolerance for drunken or otherwise incapacitated musicians, especially in my bands. Went through a LOT of drummers in my time.
