For the Class 5 to arrive. I bought the thing well over a month ago, nearer five weeks.
It should be landing today, Fedex have it, it's left the depot 12 miles from my house.
The suspense is killing me. Damn my impatience.

Clips and photo's to follow when it joins the fold.

Man, this is outrageous. Did GAK warn you it might take this long when you placed the order? Good grief, it a bit spoils the fun of an impulse buy, doesn't it?

Still, you'll be plugged into it soon now. I hope it will be worth the wait!

Cheers - C

You wait till winter when I get back dedicated to indoor projects. See the rig this is going to be part of.

It's worth it! Channel switching and mixing with a twist.

Ah well back to looking out the window and walking to the end of the street.

Well the Target has landed, what a amp. The most insane thing ever is to put a MOD design on the thing. It's classic rock heaven.
Just turn it up to 9 and it's Motorhead-a-go-go. Hendrix at around 5/6. Cream/Bluesbreakers era clapton at around 7. All with a Telecaster with singlecoils.

Soundclips later, currently in a volume war with my dopper neighbour. Pratt, trying to battle a 5watt amp. Wait till I get the big guns out.

Mr Jeebus, no you don't mate. I've spent so much time lately playing soul and funk, I've forgotten how to rock. Tried a couple of times to record something worth sharing earlier. All I got was mistakes and woeful inadequacy.
Not doing the amp justice at the moment.
Anyway the amp is a Marshall Class 5. This one is only available from one shop in the whole world. Brighton's (scenery for lots of the film Quadraphenia) Guitar Amp Keyboard Center. Hence the MOD target design on the amp.
You can pick up Class 5 amps for $399 at Musicians friend. Which aint too far away from the £ price I paid for mine.

Despite being a humble 5 watt into a 10" speaker, it's probably loud enough for a small pub gig. The bass end of this amp is massive. Theres a bit more gain on tap than a traditional Marshall non master volume amp. So unless you play exclusively distorted guitar, you can't really gig with it.
The good thing about it is the nifty switch on the back of the amp. It lets you choose between speaker or headphones. However when there are no headphones plugged in, the amp delivers headphone volume to the speaker. It doesn't sound too bad with that switch engaged. Though the treble is a little less dynamic and the bass is a little more muddy. Good enough for late nights in my kitchen.
I suppose it's more suited to recording. It's got a good range of classic UK sounds. Around 4 on the volume you have The Kinks, All Day and All of The Night. Around 5/6 it's Hendrix Are you Experienced. 7 puts you firmly in Clapton/Bluesbreakers territory and 10 is 70's MotorHead/Deep Purple madness. The volume control operating as much like a tone control as a volume control. Just like all the old Marshall amps.
All in all, a bit of a one trick pony. That does it's one trick, UK amp sounds between 1955-1979, very well. Very well indeed. I really like it, even when comparing it to my JCM's or DIY 18 watt.

The guitar is my absolute go to guitar for anything where I have to perform. The Fender Strat 57 Hotrod. A guitar I wholly recommend above all others. (yeah I like it a lot). The pickup is a Dimarzio ToneZone S. It has a lot of mids, even for a humbucker. Some people don't like it (Martian, who's opinion should never be discounted, included). I however love it. Really thick sounding, without overloading the bass side. Good for that classic rock Free/Bad Company sound.

thanx mr Nik. i read about this little monster and saw that it was 5 watts into a 10 inch speaker. however, i play through a peavey 212 valveking that is very heavy and really loud. i like this amp especially because it is within my budget. i'm looking for a slightly smaller amp that will deliver without a mike in small clubs. i've always liked marshall but the budget is tight. i'm not in a hurry for another amp so i can shop for awhile.
i'm thinking i'll go the seymor duncan hotrail in my new strat. i have one in my mim and i love it. i'll check out the dimarzio before i make a final decision. the stock bridge pu in mine is just too thin for my style of playing.
thanx brother
