I own a '57 in sunburst. The only issue it ever really had was the plastic jack plate (cracked and flaking away due to age). I finally found a decent repro at RS Guitarworks and it's fine now. The Junior neck may take some getting used to as it's much deeper in profile than a Standard or a Custom.

I had a 56 single cutaway in SB; my brother had a 57 in cherry, both one pickup jobs. The necks were the widest and fattest I've ever played on any guitar with the 57 being the biggest. Aside from the jack plates breaking, the horrible Klusons and the tailpieces not fully intonating, there were no problems. I did shim the pickups so they would be closer to the strings and install Badass Bridges on both of them (both mods, fully reversible and undetectable, of course).

Yes, the jack plates and tuner buttons seem to be the most problematic. I love that P-90 tone though.

I had Grover "kidney bean" Rotomatics installed on it shortly after buying it in '75 (the tuners were already shot by then). And as our friend Martian has mentioned, the necks on the 57's are freakin' huge!

But the original P90 is as ballsy as it gets.

I've always been fond of the double cut version.

I saw that Dave's Guitar Shop has a 1961 for $5K (IIRC).

Forum member Blinkers has/had an Evans LP Jr. that was deadly and cost him more than an actual Gibson if memory serves me correctly. She has the deadliest set of P-90s that I've heard and he was thinking of selling her-not a Gibson-but better. If you like I can email him and let him know that you're interested.

Isn't it very close to a LP TV Model? I had one of those with a dog eared P-90
that sounded really good (actually, it was a screamer!), but I was young and foolish and sanded off that fugly yellow finish and ended up trading it away a few years later.

Like this?

The holy grail of the juniors IMO.

Looks like it, but it had "TV Model" on headstock below Gibson and only single cutaway. I'll look for pics...but maybe only after the finish was off.

SG Junior, perhaps? I found this on a local Craigslist listing.

+1

Totally different animal from the LP Jr.

I tried to improve the scan quality, but it is what it is.

The LP TV Model (stripped) in bottom photo. Others are Duosonic with PAFs, Dano and '67 Tele.

This is a new '68/'69 Guild Starfire IV (another case of seller's remorse!)

(you can see the Hammond Cry Baby box in background)
