Small Faces, Itchicoo Park. Apparently the first time phasing was used for the production of a song. I don't know if what I'd read, that they discovered it by accident during the recording, is accurate or not.

I love modulation effects especially stereo ones. I have phasing in my Cyber-Champ amp and in my PODxt, but I've recently been shopping for a stand alone pedal either an E-H Small Stone or one of the MXRs. I'm wondering if the hand-wired custom shop Phase 90 is worth the extra $40 more than the standard Phase 90. Opinions?

I traded a Dual 1210 record player/receiver yesterday on Craigslist for this original first version 1975-78 EH Small Stone Phase Shifter! The guy said I could have the adaptor but I didn't realize at the time that it uses a DC, not the usual AC so I had to go out and buy one. Anyway.. it's my first Electro Harmonix. I knew it was valuable/rare so I couldn't pass it up!! :P I haven't found any other Phase Shifters w/ the 'NYC' at the bottom, only MADE IN USA.

I know this is a serious thread but. Wow, a Phaser, we could have used one of those to get rid of the bad guy.

In the late 70's I used one set to a very low rate, to kinda get a Strat sound from my Les Paul.

Back then you only had a 3 way switch in your strat, and you had to kinda get it to settle between 1&2 or 2&3 (some guys used tape).

I still use the one on my mustang 111 amp

a phase shifter was the very first modulation effect I ever bought....an MXR Phase 45 the 90's little brother way back when Moses was doing his swim team gig. I own a EHX Small Stone and a Phase 90 now and use them sparingly. I originally bought them in that search for the elusive Leslie simulator but got used to the sound of them. Have to admit to over using the Phase 45 when I first got it cos' it made everything sound "cool" lol

Most assuredly.
I have started with a multi-effects unit, but I'd like to grow up one day and get the real deal.
I like to use 'em to blend chord sequences for things like 80s Rush.

I have phaser built into my Mustang amp. I use it on occasion. It is not a main staple in my effects though.

I somtimes use the phaser on a very slow sweep. Usually a whole note if tied in with a tap tempo on my x3live. I use it in combo with a dotted eighth note delay and a one repeat feedback setting on some clean open chords for some of our Worship music on Sunday. Helps fill up that big 2 story room. Don't have to worry about reverb in that place. :P

I use a myriad of settings on my Phase 90.

Achingly slow sweep with some delay for a trippy Floyd-esque psychedelic blues tune...
Medium speed for some funky rhythm lines and faux-Clavinet licks...
Fast speed for some faux-Leslie excursions...
And everything in between. Having said that, I make an honest effort to not overuse it.

I have a bootleg live recording of Buddy Guy where Phil Guy (his brother) was playing rhythm guitar all evening and never once turned off his phase shifter. This was in the mid/late 70's, when a phase shifter pedal was relatively novel.

As good as the CD is, I can barely listen to it all the way through because of the over-use, over-exposure and saturation of that one effect...
