I have been a car nut for longer than I've been a guitar freak and even at the age of 2 knew every domestic and foreign car on the market.Since I could never afford the cars of my dreams I've amassed a huge collection of car magazines dating back to the 60s in some cases and dozens of books on classic marques.
Lately I've gotten into collecting diecast models of classic cars and so far only have about a dozen cars and motorcycles.Today I ordered 2 cars from one of my favourite now defunct car makers Packard.I ordered a 1955 Carribean convertible and a 1930 Boattail Speedster. If I can ever track down a '34-'36 Packard Dual Cowl Phaeton I would consider myself having the Holy Grail as that's my all time favourite car even ahead of the '62-'64 Ferrari 250 GTO.
Has anyone else been bitten by the diecast bug? That goes for old Corgis and Meccano Dinkies of which I also have dozens kept from my childhood.

I have a modest collection of die-cast musclecars from Danbury, Franklin, and Johnny Lightning......19 or 20 at last count.

I have the full set of fifty Danbury Mint pewter collection from the early 80s.

Did some research a few years back on them and it seems that the UK set is different from the US set which caused some issues when I wanted to sell them.

Unfortunately, the wife doesn't like them so they sit in a box in the attic......... :(

I have around 1200 cars, mostly Hot Wheels but with some Johnny Lightnings and Matchbox thrown in, as well as miscellaneous diecast stuff. All in boxes under the staircase and around 99% of them in the package.
I also have around 30 1/43rd cars mostly LeMans type racers, and around 10 1/18th scale cars, again endurance and Can-Am cars.
What I value the most is my small collection of Original Hot Wheels from the 60s-70s, what they call Redlines. Some incredible colors.

Yup, collect Redline era Hotwheels and Lesney Matchbox a few Johnnys too -- mint to near mint only. Also a few Carousel 1 60's Indy cars (1/18 scale) amazing detail. Stuck in the late sixties early seventies I guess.

I've been selling off a bunch of unbuilt plastic car models on eBay to help finance my guitar hobby... still got a basement full of car models, though... about 500 or so... I'm not abandoning the car model hobby, just paring down...

I went on the Danbury and Franklin Mint sites and their prices are extremely steep even though they are no doubt high quality models.I have seen models on the http://www.diecastmint.ca/ site for much much less for some identical models.Where I collect models from The National Motor Museum Mint (Diecast Mint)I get 1/32 models and pay usually $20 for models with a MSRP of $40 and their 1/24 and 1/18 models usually go for $35 to $60 respectively. On the other sites 1/24 models are routinely over $100 so I think I'll stick with the Canadian company for now for price, quality and selection.
