This was also kind of a test to see if more people would post in
a John Mayer or Sonny Landreth thread.

I think that there's a message here somewhere. :?

Sonny is so brilliant you can't look directly at his recordings or you'll see spots.

(or was that Nevin?) :P

His slide playing is of another dimension. I think it was Ben Hogan who said of a young Jack Nicklaus, "He plays a game with which I am not familiar..."

The same could be said of Sonny Landreth.

I've only seen him in the Crossroads dvds and havn't avtually listened to much of his stuff so can't really say much........

He certainly can play though. I can't get my head round basic slide techniques so he just blows my mind!!!!

The only slide I can play is when I crack out the little cigar box tuned to d-a-d..........that I can do(just about)

I imagine seeing him live would either a-make me cry and then divorce my wife and disown my kids before locking myself away with a dozen slide books and just play and play until i could do it

or b-go home and lock my guitars away...........

some players have had that effect on me.....the first time I saw ANdy Mckee, the first time I saw the Eagles live and the last time I saw Clapton at the Royal ALbert Hall.........

You mean this guy? We had the privilege of him playing at the Concert Under the Stars to roughly 100 of us because it rained right before he came on and nobody came but a couple of us hardcore Sonny fans. I got some pretty decent shots. You could just walk right up to him. He played like he was playing for 10,000 people. A really nice guy and an amazing show. He had his Dumble and a Twin as well as a Few Strats.

I got on an email list for the City of Bedford Bluesfest. They ask who I thought they should have play and I said Sonny Landreth. I didn't give any more names because I didn't want to water it down. :D

I agree,Sonny has a style unlike any other slide player,I've played slide for over 30 years and can't even understand how he does some of the things he does.
It seems that the music fans of this world and even guitar players miss out on some great music because it's not somebody "famous".....Sonny is a true master player.

I agree with you all...

I saw Sonny Landreth on one of Clapton's "Crossroads" guitar festivals on TV. Sonny Landreth blew my mind! He made me just want to put my glass slide away, because I'm not worthy of playing slide... 8)

I really enjoyed South of I-10 and Down in Louisiana - both are really good albums.
