But then again, we all have different views of what talent consists of. I'm just glad his fans aren't getting all defensive. It's not just Mayer. Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Jonny Lang too. I just don't see anything special about them. I'll take Johnny Winter any day of the week. It's more than just playing loud and imitating someone else's sound. If they spent more time being creative and less time posing and making faces they would be more interesting to me. Of the current musicians, I find Joe Bonamassa creative and hard working. YMMV

i think lang and shepherd were 1/2 ok. they were both young when they got their tickets.

That's the only reason they got their tickets. They were more amusing as kids.

Way back there were lots of camps. Led Zepplin/Black Sabbath, Johnny Winter/Alvin Lee, Rory Gallagher/Clapton. I guess every time had its camps.

I don't like to judge an artist by his character. I like to judge by the art he makes.

And are we all so good players to judge a professional with such success? We might like -or not- one's music, but that's how far our judge should go. That is to pay respect to a guy's creation.

I personally like some of his work, and think he has the feeling when he plays his guitar. Don't wanna comment on his level of playing. He is not EC, and EC is not JM. Each player has his own style and technique. We like it or not...

well, we are not supose to judge, but if we do let it be on the way a man carries himself and the works that he does.

"And are we all so good players to judge a professional with such success"

just because one is successful doesnt mean hes any good at it, it just means that there is someone out there that thinks he is.

hes really not that good bro. to answer your question, hell yes.
i have learned a thing or two on this board, 1 being you never really know who your talking with or their backgrounds. there are a lot of good players on this board and several great players to boot.
when your in a field of work, the higher paying man isnt always the best at the business at hand, sometimes he just has a lot of people convinced that he is.

i get your point way cool jr. You are right, and there are many better players out there not as famous as him, or not famous at all. I never meant that none of the friends in this forum can play better than him. How could I know that?

But, why do we have to apply critisism? If we don't like, we don't care. I don't care what eminem does, cause I dont like his work, it's not my taste, BUT I admire him for what he has achieved. The same applies for i.e. Mariah Carey. Good voice, never liked her songs. I really like EC, he is a top player, by many, by me, he is EC. Not better than SRV, not Hendrix, just EC. Meyer is Meyer, did I make myself clear now?

By the way, I am only discussing, not arguing. I can't believe how can people argue behind a monitor...it makes me laugh.

oh i get that too. no worries.

thing is, your on a forum that we all have at least one passion in common, guitars.
we will look and judge those in our "field". its only natural that we do so because we ourselves are so involved in it. its our passion, and for some, secretly our 1st love but dont tell the wives and g.friends lol.
i dont think anybody was "ball bat beating him down" kind of way ya know. we were just expressing our opinions over him and his playing. when your out in public like this
be it your an actor, sports person, musician, or whatever, you gotta roll with the punches cause the punches are gonna roll.
in these cases i think people have a right to biotch cause its our hard earned money that allows them to live the high life anyways.

i dont hate the guy ya know. hell i dont know him.
im happy that hes found success in a field where so few do. i too also hope he buckles
down and leaves the pop/teeny bopper image behind him and uses his situation for a better use in the future. since hes already there he might as well try to get super serious and focus on his future and not the here and now.
