I'm not a fan of John Mayer either. I've seen him on TV at various concerts or whatever.
*sigh* That's all I have to say...

Q: Is he a real blues guitarist?
A: I'm not qualified to answer that as I don't know how to discern a real blues guitarist from a fake one. >_>

Q: Is he Justin Bieber with a guitar?
A: No. Justin Bieber is the only Justin Bieber with a guitar.

Q: Is he the next Clapton?
A: No. The person who wrote that should be slapped.

Q: My opinion of John Mayer?
A: He was on Chappelle's Show, so I can't really say nothing bad about him. I don't really have many good things to say about him either. So my opinion can be summed up as: meh :|

Decent pop songwriter; he has a few catchy tunes that I don't turn off when I hear them come on the radio.

Pretty good guitarist. He can certainly outplay me. He's a talented micmic and can hold his own playing a blues song. But he's not a blues player; he's a guy who plays at the blues, meaning he has chops and abilities and knows what notes to play in a blues context...But he's not a true "bluesman".

I don't like to watch him sing, because it looks like he had a stroke and makes me uncomfortable. His singing isn't terrible.

His personal conduct as a pothead and revealing conversations of his practicing "self love" often ("Pictures of Lily," anyone?) is a bit moronic. The racist comments in the interview a while back has cemented him as an idiot in my book.

The person who mentioned his higher level of fame for who his current girlfriend is probably has a point.

He is not worthy to be considered a wart on the tip of Eric Clapton's little toe, so no, he is not the next Clapton.

Doyle Bramhall II, Charlie Sexton, Derek Trucks, Joe Bonnamassa and several other dozen guys should be more famous than him, but because women think he's "cute," he's better known.

He has significantly more talent than Bieber, and a comparison of the two is ridiculous.

The Armadillo hath spoken... :P

When I read this back it sure sounds arrogant.

When he hits forty-five or fifty, Mayer will still have that silly "where's-my-Clearasil" look on his face.

In any case, by that time few will remember his name.

I really like him to be honest, own all his Cd's and a few DVDs.
Yeah he may not be the next Eric Clapton but no one will. I'm a big fan of Clapton and yeah he is an amazing guitarist but i cant really see him having any more songs that get really popular like his early stuff did. But its a different time now and people are liking Mayer's music so he is doing something right.

And yeah his guitar playing will never be the best in the world but you can tell he is influenced by Clapton by his acoustic pieces where he plays with his thumb over the neck. and some of his solos are in the 'style' of Hendrix or SRV so i would never say he is a bad guitarist.

Yeah he will never be the next Clapton but no one will so can he not be a good john Mayer.

He doesnt take his own songs serious, hes a blues player, he's a hilarious genius who fools all of these bimbo girls into thinking he's some kind of pop sweet heart love song emotional type. Listen to his popular songs then watch his blues performances, he obviously can give give two shits about his pop songs, he only performs em to get payed. Overall, great player

I have heard some of Mayer's blues playing and I must say that he is pretty competent but not as outstanding as some people portray him to be.I know local guys that would blow him out of the water.I was listening to a Sirius MOR station last night-which is something I rarely do and a song came on with tasty,well-played guitar licks but lyric wise it was a maudlin POS and low and behold it was Johnny Mayer.Although he may well be a gifted guitarist his mainstream music is right down there with the Justa Beaver crapola.

Actually I find him to be Justa Parrot. I find him boring, unoriginal and uninspired. If he didn't have his good looks, He'd still be playing in bars with the rest of us ugly arses. I've heard people cover Mayers stuff and do a better more creative job of it. His power trio leaves me cold too. Too much dead air to carry a trio. Maybe he should watch Rory Gallagher and see how it's really done.

Not a wasted microsecond with Rory. Or SRV for that matter.

His Guitar playing is Erratic, His vocals are Weak and Annoying, his Song Writing is the definition of Mediocrity.

And, I'm pretty sure he's already begun his journey into Obscurity. Did he do anything of any relevance while he was popular? Anything near the stature of "Layla" or "Sunshine of your Love"? Nope, not even a Bay City Rollers "S-A-TUR-DAY NIGHT" sort of thing. Just a lot of "Look Mom, I'm on a real stage" sort of thing.

Just my opinion.
