well, one thing's for sure... acoustic keeps your callouses (or however you spell it) in top condidtion. has anyone ever had a blister underneath a callous? that hurts...

Ouch! Now that you mention it, I think I did back when I was first learning. My fingers used to bleed when I first started playing guitar, but I had steel strings. Switched to nylon not too long after that, and it got better. Now I play both on different guitars. I need to play more often, though, to keep those callouses in top shape. I've been playing fiddle mostly with our church band, but I need to record a few more songs for the album, so I'd better get to work!

It's better than nothing. I only play a couple of times a week, though. It's better than keyboards. What, you mean woodwinds won't give you calluses? :?: :!: :D LOL. Keyboards don't, either! Now if it were a mandolin, that would make some serious calluses. :)

actually, woodwinds do give you callouses... mouth callouses. especially if you have braces (which i did when i first started playing.) they're not like guitar callouses that go away over time. no, i wouldn't be that lucky. i only take my sax out like twice a year, just to make sure it hasn't mgically broken sitting in the back of my closet, and i still have those damn callouses. oh, well. c'est la vie.

hey!!!!!!!! i'm sort of new here! i'm a girl! i'm also one of the few people that use my name... oh well. i play acoustic... does anyone else?

I started out with acoustic. My dad brought me home a guitar from Japan when I was 13. I killed that one (who knew they made capos? ). My next guitar was a classical (and, yes, I got a great capo!). Still have that one. I have my dad's Dreadnought, which I play occasionally, and an acoustic-electric from another manufacturer (which shall be nameless). I also have a solid-body electric (also from another manufacturer, but it was a present... 8) . My cousins who were in the music business all played Fenders, so before I got my acoustic, I'd already played a great Fender. (Wish I could remember what model. I don't know which one of his kids inherited that guitar, but it was wonderful. It may have been a Les Paul.)

I still prefer playing acoustic, because I haven't learned all the little tricks to make electric sing. I'm working on it, though. :D I keep broadening my playing styles.

I see a lot of good rockers here! Anybody else play other genres?
I do classical, country, bluegrass, Celtic, jazz and some rock.

Sorry, but LP guitars are made by Gibson.

I know this'll get a rather  response from some, but there's nothing wrong with playing other manufacturers guitars, too. I got a Fender acoustic /electric (DG-16 E 12), a Taylor acoustic, as well as my basses (Fender, Rickenbacker, Carvin). I play them all.

haha...I'd hope that other manufacturers guitars are adequate. I don't even own a Fender and I love posting on this forum. Someday I'll probably get a Fender, but I need some money first. I think that Gibson guitars are pretty damn awesome as well. I wouldn't be able to choose one over the other though.

Hi Jen!

Glad to hear that Fender is listening to women. Sorry, but I don't think that Daisy Rock is. Their guitars are heavy and ugly, IMHO. Gibson has a nice Les Paul (Leslie Paul?????) for women though.

There are some great summer rock camps for women. We have one in NYC. That is one place to connect with women guitarists.

I am starting guitar programs in the camp and the school where I teach and I intend to encourage the girls to play. YOu can rock and still be fem, IMHO. I am also starting a band of people over the age of 30. We still rock.

my two favorite bands- My Chemical Romance and Green Day- are both either in their 30's or close to it. i don't think age really matters when it comes to rock if you have the passion for it.
