hey everyone! Here's the deal. I just turned 15, so I got a good wait till a sweet 16, but my parrents and I started looking around now, cause I know that I would like a tele. I have not done much country stuff, maybe like 1 or 2 lics, but hopefully will be getting more into it in the near future... So the other day my dad and I went to a local music store to look around and kill some time, so we told the guy that we were looking at tele's. He thought I was looking at buying soon, and was trying to get me into this one G&L. Nice guitar, in good shape. And he claims it's a great price. He said that he'd give it to us for something like $750...

So with that being said, we went home and looked up G&L a little bit, figuring, if this was such a great deal and was what I wanted than I could get it now. So what do you all say?? good deal?? What are they like in comparison to a Fender Tele? Would I be better off waiting, since there is time? Give me you input.....

i've never played one, but from what i've seen online here after looking it up, they look like extremely nice guitars.... if you played it and feel it suits you, by all means get it, looks like a nice deal

Need more facts to give good advice here.

First, is it a USA G&L, or a "Tribute" model (Korean-made)? If the latter $750 is not a good price. If it is a USA model, it may be a good deal depending on what model it is and what condition, whether it comes with a G&L case or bag, etc.

Although designed by Leo Fender and resembling some Fender body shapes, G&L's have Leo's later "Magnetic Field Design" pickups and so will sound at least a bit different than the pickups in a Fender Telecaster.

If you like it and it is a USA G&L it may be worth the money. Check and see what model and year it is, and tell us that and what condition it's in and whether it comes with a G&L bag or case.

Never played one. I would suggest getting a Highway One or a used American Standard and using the money that you save on a good amp.

G&L's were made (or at least designed) by leo fender after he left fender (after it was bought by CBS), some people say that G&L's are what fender would have been like if leo had been in the wheel the whole time

P.S. G&L stands for George and Leo (yes, george fullterton)

Actually, that was the orignal intent.

However, nobody knows that George Fullerton was one of the original Fender principals, so he got demoted-- right out of the name.

"G&L" now stands for "Guitars by Leo."

I know, it doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's the company's official line.

I think you should wait a while because you might be able to get a fender tele cheaper than you would now.

hotice, we appreciate your participation here, but just a friendly word of caution: we don't allow buying/selling/trading on these forums. Also always make sure your comments are related to the specific thread.

Nice guitars. I was told that when Leo Fender left the company he became involved with G&L.

George and Leo were the original founders of G&L. George is still a consultant to the company after Leo's wife transferred ownership to the new company upon Leo's passing.
