In that securing a venue generally means a contract, a non-refundable financial committment would be required, because the venue would have to be paid even if everyone who registered bailed out. Thus you can see what the logistical issues are at the outset.

I organized one once a few years ago with another forum I used to frequent and if its of any interest I'll relate some thought.

We called it the Big Dig Gig because it was the Boston version of the jams, though it was in Lowell, about 27 miles north of Boston. It was accessible quite a few that attended and some came as far as Philly. I had the use of a local establishment (restaurant/bar) on a Sunday afternoon that was beneficial all around. They charged nothing, we paid nothing but most ate and/or drank, a crowd that they might not have had anyway.

I got a few guys together to form an anchor band, essentially a guitarist/singer, drummer and bass provided at least that. There were no set lists but a few rules: no combination of players got more than 3 songs or 15 minutes before a change had to be made, everyone got to play and were mixed accordingly with skill level. If you were great and could solo and the band knew it you could play what you want. If you were inexperienced and could only handle three chord rhythms we put you with others that could carry it. No down time: the sets and songs for each rotation had to be ready to hit the stage/floor as soon as the change could be made. Someone has to run it and be in charge. Make a list (who plays with who in what order), stick to the list. The main thing is it had to be musical and entertaining, not 10 guitars making noise. That only works if you're at someones house, or in the woods. If there was a non participating audience it was important not to drive them out.

One thing that did get away from us was the volume, it was a little loud for those meeting each other for the first time that wanted to talk. That was the only complaint we got. This is just the way we did it and it worked and not necessarily the only way obviously.

PS We were invited back to do it again anytime. We never did.

If this is just going to be a localised gathering of half a dozen or so members, once you've collected the names of those attending, find the one most suitable, able and willing and go and set up you're gear in his back garden.
I think once you have you're definite starters, this event will ease out a lot more.
I'm not trying to be smart, this is just a thought.

We can have it at my place-lots of parking, huge lawn for tents etc. and I am literally as far North East as you can go in North America any farther and you're either in Ireland if you go East or Iceland if you go North.

If you guys have one in the UK, we should setup a YouTube Channel for ALL of our individual jams and maybe Fender would want to get involved at some point?

Snowy and forum member AlanSaab get together at times, or they did, well I think they still do I'm not sure. You'll have to ask them, they are up in your part of the world, Glasgow I think, that ain't too far from Aberdeen.

A scottish one would be cool but I know, being up in the styx, that I would need to travel so one for the whole of the UK would be cool and come to think of it Rhumba, Manchester would be a nice 'mid-point' to have some sort of jam and booze up....ahem.....get together........

As with our US brethren, it's all dependent on how much interest we could generate.
One advantage with the UK, is nobody will have far to travel and that would suit me nicely just at this time, until I get my health issues sorted.

Alanssaab and I got together a few times, the guy is lightyears ahead of me :D It was a laugh though, he was at my place the other day. Fixing my speaker cables, my tannoy's sound great again  I was up in Ballater a few weeks ago Wookee, I'm going back in September for another week. I rent a cabin up there, for me and the dog. I take a guitar with me, and my vox da5 practice amp. If you can get down to the central belt, I'm sure Alan would be up for a jam. If not, scoot along to Ballater in Sept.
