Some of you may recall a few weeks ago I was writing about a land grab in our area that threatened the famed East Coast Trail on NLs. Avalon Peninsula-which was only last year designated by National Geographic Traveller as the most desirable coastal destination in the world. It also threatens one of the world's largest seabird colonies. Now council is talking about expropriating some of the property of current residents- me included as well as that of an eldely woman who still lives in the house she was born in 80 years ago-all so a developer can build mansions for the well heeled.
The council granted a rezoning of the parkland that the proposed subdivision is to be built on from parkland to residential so he'll be free and clear to carry on.What stinks about this is that they passed it and didn't have a quorum of councillors which makes it null and void but they failed to notify the provincial government about this as well as a lot of their questionable goings on.
If you are interested in saving pristine areas such as this and abhor people's rights being trampled please go to the Facebook site"Help Us Save Ragged Beach,Witless Bay".We've had support from all kinds of environmental organizatins but council in its arrogance hasn't been swayed one bit so far so we need all the help we can get. Please sign up and back our cause and even write our lax polititions if you can.Thanks.Derek.

Thanks so much ABS,things are starting to look up.I found out this evening that someone has filed an njunction to have all planning on this stopped as the go ahead for it was null and void as they didn't have a quorum.A popular local newscaster has also joined our cause so a bit of publicity from him would be a real boost.

Tanx Blinkers.BTW Happy Birthday!!!Yesterday the spokeswoman of our group was interviewed on a province-wide radio program but sadly I missed it but from what I hear she did really well with presenting our case.On Monday she is slated to be interviewed on the largest suppertime TV newscast in the province and that goes country wide on some cable and satellite networks.Things are finally looking up.
