Hi Andy, good to see you! How's loife? :D
Thanks for your kind comments! As you may have guessed I am nowhere near where I'd like to be with the bridge right now, so indeed it is becoming exceedingly exciting even to write this thread.

Sir Ripitup wrote:
He's probably lost in the moment Andy, I'm sure if David Attenbourgh were to creep up he'd hear the faint but unmistakable sound of Nutter hard at work , listen everyone................ "like a bridge over Nu utters Framus"...... yes there we have it the woodcarving Nutter hard at work singing merrily away, let's for now, just watch, the wood being, carefully and methodically shaped and listen again to a few lines.... wonderful........."I will sand you dowwwwwwn, like a bridge over Nu utters Framus"

Ah, bless you, Rip, you made my heart sing (and now ev'rything's groovy...) but as I was telling Andy above, even though I have a slight headstart to the thread, work and my meandering ponderings on the conclusion of this project have made that headstart shrink into negative infinity. So I hope your merry singing will carry me further across this bridge's troubled waters... ;-) Thanks for that! :D

For now I will add what I have to offer for tonight. Here's what we've got so far:

A bridge base piece with some heavy footwear.

Image

And my itchin' desire to get them shaped the way I want (ooh-ooh-ooh - honey). For this I used my SpeedItUp-Method for manual labour. To cut to the right size quicker, I performed minimum incisions with the saw to roughly the depth I needed, and started sanding that down. When the cuts start to disappear, it shows the end is near!

Image

And taking a look: the foot on the right is shaped closer to the black ebony (I think it's ebony), so I stopped sanding with the rough method (dremel sander) and move on to the other foot.
The Dremel sander (shown in the background) was particularly helpful in shaping the carve of the inner bow of the bridge (the heels of both feet), since the radius of the miniature sanding drum and the curve of the bow coincide so gracefully.

Image

And to the other side. Eventually I started laying the bridge sideways and sanding down the rest manually with some 120 grit sandpaper.

Image

And the other one done. Ain't that a nice rough cut! I guess If I were planning this job to end road worn I could stop right there....

Image

So now we are dangerously close to real-time with this build. My next step will be to get the feet to fit snugly up to the archtop, and even though Dan Erlewine may be a genius, I will go a different way than he does in this delicious repair our friend Ceri linked to. I will not be putting sandpaper on my Lady's (yes that's a capital L!) stomach like Dan does, pictured below:

Dan Erlewine suggests and StewMac sells wrote:

The reason is I need the fit to be good, but not exact, since the pressure of the strings bears down on the bridge, forcing the feet apart, and therfore forcing the tip of the feet upward a little. I may of course be wrong, but I theorise that the way I carve these feet the bridge will be able to bend and then gain snugness.

And of course I don't wanna buy this gadget for this one opportunity. 8)

To still get a certain degree of precision, I will leave you with a pic of this little tool (of which I've no idea what it's called, by the way):

Image

Again, I am no expert, and this is my first time doing this sort of thing, but I have high hopes. We shall see soon. Stay tuned. :D

Cheers,

Nutter

Sorry Mike - but the above quote is actually by Mr Pappawookee! He deserves the points for this excellent utterance! :D

You may keep it if you like. For future use. Or just to pin on your office wall. You deserve it. :)

Wookee is welcome!

Rip is thanked!

I wasn't aware of this wealth of Sorelle-sounds on the Tube. If you could hear my knees knocking right now... I just hope it turns out. I promise soundbites once this is over. Not many build threads have that - always pushing towards breaking the soundbarrier. Pun not intended. :? 8)

Cheers!

Yeah there's quite a few in there to peruse, also spotted this one although it's the Riviera the bridge looks to be close to the one if not the exact bridge you were looking for ( around 1-38 on the vid part No in pic ), raising a shaking fist in the direction of Warwick on your behalf
