Ok! let's move on!

This is the thing with the bridge: I forgot to take photos before I did this step, so to illustrate what I mean I drew a yellow curve there.

Image

The bridge itself was made for a curved body, so the feet of the bridge were not usable in a glue connection. Which meant that I had to get the feet flat.

Image

Taking a piece of sandpaper and laying it flat on a piece of hardwood, I gradually sanded out the curve in the bottom of the foot. To check whether I had done enough, I took a pencil and covered it in graphite like this:

Image

Sand that a few times and take a look at where there still is graphite left. If there's still a slight curve, there will be graphite in the middle of the foot. After a while it looked like in the pic below, which meant that the foot was flat. First step done! :)

Image

So now the pic I took comes into play again, this time without the curve:

Image

Looking good! 8)

After doing the same with the other foot, the bridge is smiling:

Image

Ready to find a piece of wood to make shoes out of for those feet...

There's one! I think it's plum wood, but I am no expert, as you may well have noticed! *snigger* :D

Image

Anyway. Time for a beer!

This is what's waiting in my fridge....

Image

Cheers!

Nutter

At about the age of six my wife's nephew announced to his mother in a loud voice in the middle of the supermarket; "I know what women have under their sweaters!"

"Uuumm... you do?" she asked, nervously.

"Nibbles!" he shouted.

Right, last we checked I had scouted the piece of wood I would use and had started sanding that. It was a pretty rough cut originally so I burnt some muscle fat while sanding it. I only needed one side of the board flat to glue the feet to, since the other side would become contoured again to sit snug on the top of the arch. Saved me a bit of work there! ;-)

I'd just like to mention that behind the scenes Mr Ceri and Mr Andybighair have given me lots of support on this project. Thanks lads! They seem to be of the opinion that somehow it'll turn out well. Bless them! :)

Pish, we haven't helped at all - you don't need it.

+1

Giant African Chickens... That's a lot of nipples even for a giant chicken. I Bet they get very excited running through long grass... :D

Threads around here rarely get closed. They pass into a sort of pending status, waiting to be revitalised. Much in contrast to Andy's status of greatness, which long ago lost the right to carry the preambula: "pending". I and others petitioned to cut that and write "Achieved" there instead. But Andy won't listen.... such is life. ;)

Nah, the sig line stays. "Pending Greatness". I like to think those two words pretty accurately represent my present status and expresses my realistic optimism for the future. Its a bit like saying "I'm not quite good enough yet... but I could be.".

Anyhoo...

Good stuff so far Mr N. You have a nicely balanced build thread with a very healthy ratio of quality content to "Hijack Humour". There's also plenty of very nice clear pic's which is always good!I feel a congratulatory beer, a wee bit of big hairy silliness and some Epic Socks is in order!

Cheers! :D

I have to say, I've noticed a few very telling pic's posted here. Very intriguing indeed. I have a feeling this thread is going to be lots of fun! :D

What's next Nutter?

He's probably lost in the moment Andy, I'm sure if David Attenbourgh were to creep up he'd hear the faint but unmistakable sound of Nutter hard at work , listen everyone................ "like a bridge over Nu utters Framus"...... yes there we have it the woodcarving Nutter hard at work singing merrily away, let's for now, just watch, the wood being, carefully and methodically shaped and listen again to a few lines.... wonderful........."I will sand you dowwwwwwn, like a bridge over Nu utters Framus"
