Can't beat a good quiz.

Are you still planing on restoring it?

Andy

[source: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=53977]

Well, indeed I am!

Some of you may remember that thread. I posted a small quiz on what guitar I had, and Mr guitslinger guessed correctly: Framus. So now this utterly bridgeless sixstring shall finally re-enter its majestical form and function, and we may finally discover what a '69 Framus acoustic sounds like. At least that's the goal. Who knows where we'll end up: I hope there's lots of hi-jacking! :D

As you know I'm an avid follower of build threads, and I must say: there have been much too few of these lately. So even though I am no professional like others here (and I bid you to remember that at all times as we proceed: have mercy on me! 8) ), I will man up and brave it and hereby start The Nutter's Incredible Bridge Buildup Experiment (or N.I.B.B.L.E for short ;))! So welcome! Bring your favourite drinks, pets and nibbles, put your rocking socks on if you want, sit back, relax; but don't shout too much or I'll get nervous. And we don't want nervous sweat all over her body, do we? 8)

The patient is a 42 year old lady with fair red finish and lush "thinline-esque" archtop curves, bound in what can only be called the cream of experience: gorgeous!

Those hips don't lie! ;)

Anyway, this lady faces a dilemma: At some point in time, a previous owner somehow managed to loose the bridge, which is to a guitar like throwing away the key to a room full of food to a starving man. In other words: majorly unbearable. A replacement bridge was sent for, but in the whole kingdom of Warwick no man could find the right bridge for this lady. So somewhere in the endless halls of the dark Warwickian vaults, some old and possibly slightly confused warehousman shut his eyes tightly, held his breath and stuck his arm into a cob webbed box, grabbed a bridge and stuffed it in an envelope.
When the repair person unpacked the parcel there was great grief, although there were also utterances of "good grief" to be heard... Anyway, the bridge was not high enough to reach the strings, AND the top piece of the bridge turned out to be either for a bass guitar or for a Peter Kraus model (only four strings for movie making German fake Elvises during the 60's. Muahahahaha! ), for there were only four saddles. Ah well.

My plan is to get the bridge high enough to reach the strings and make a new top piece that can hold six strings. I'm not a huge fan of giant Ukuleles. Basses: yes. Giant Ukuleles: no. That's just the way I roll. 8)

So, to kick this project off, here's a few pics of what's going on.

The low E-string approximately properly strung over a temporary fake bridge shows how much exactly this bridge is too low:

Golly!

Anyway. I'll better get carving. I have a nice flat piece of what I believe might be plum wood. Even though it's not the right colour, I think it will be manageable. I just hope I don't botch this somewhere right at the end! [Breathe, Nutter, breathe: In ----- out; in ---- out. That's it. Now press the "submit" button. Go on. You can do it. There. Well done!]

She's a pretty little thing for sure.Fraamus always made great guitars. My buddy has a Framus bass from the late 60s-early 70s with an SG style body and she plays and sounds like a dream with a really comfortable neck,I can see why Bill Wyman loved them.

Thanks everyone for your faith! I am now even calmer than a scuba-diver who lost his snorkel in a pool of coffee!

I'd just like to mention that behind the scenes Mr Ceri and Mr Andybighair have given me lots of support on this project. Thanks lads! They seem to be of the opinion that somehow it'll turn out well. Bless them! :)

To start off the day, I'll leave you with a nice hot mug of tea. I really like that quote:

Them's child-bearing hips.

My wife used to have an American employee who had never heard of dunking Digestives - she said it wasn't in her culture. Can you imagine? But she liked it, learned fast and became a world class dunker. She's since retired back to Hawaii so hopefully there's now a small corner of that island where people know how make a proper cup of tea and the correct use of Digestives. 8)

Meh. Fire is sometimes not an end but a beginning to a guitar's journey... :|

One time in the Red Sea I saw a guy vomit into his regulator at 35 metres / 110 feet down. He wasn't a calm scuba diver at all! But he survived - with a little helpful laughter from his friends.

Pish, we haven't helped at all - you don't need it. But I wouldn't be surprised if some encouraging socks arrive at some point on this thread, along with the applause. :D

Not that it's directly useful but merely out of a sense of synchronicity here's a Trade Secrets episode that came along just recently showing Dan doing exactly the opposite operation on an archtop bridge:

I'm sitting here with my big glass of iced tea (I know, y'all think it's terrible what we do to a good cuppa over here, but it's hot outside! :P ) waiting intently and intensely for the next step...here's some encouraging footwear:

While not as epic as Monseiur BigHair's pied couvrants, I know my Justin Boots made of the Giant African Chicken will help your cause.

I seem to be getting quite guilty of that recently..........

Am glad to hear that dunking is making an international impact!!!!

I have tried dunking all types....bourbons, Hob NObs, GInger Nuts, but I always go back to Digestives..........I can hold them in place to just about the point of disintegrating when they are just right.......ah the habits of the British!!! :D :D

Cold drinks inevitably shall follow! If you know anything about build threads it will be that drinks are an essential part of any build thread supply list. And since we all welcome the still fairly new Wookee to the forum, here's something that'll keep the cool guys cool and the hot weather bearable! (I do hope Mr Russianracehorse will be around, to him we owe this great thread). viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22078

More biccies anyone?

:D

Thanks for the encouragement and the powerful footwear! Can anyone calculate the size of the chicken by the distance of those little pimply bits? I would say the chicken is at least 4 metres tall and has an avarage running speed of 56 km/h!

À bientôt,

Nuttér

I'm guessing that if you ask for a drumstick - you get something you could use as a drumstick! I wonder if wearing those boots gives a man an urge to bury his head in the sand?

Salut - Cherie

Don't be sorry, Mr pappawookee! Threads around here rarely get closed. They pass into a sort of pending status, waiting to be revitalised. Much in contrast to Andy's status of greatness, which long ago lost the right to carry the preambula: "pending". I and others petitioned to cut that and write "Achieved" there instead. But Andy won't listen.... such is life. ;)
