Here's another random question...

Do you prefer to use pedals or a processor or perhaps nothing at all (just straight into the amp).

Back in the day, I had a sort of mix-n-match pedal assortment:
Guitar ---> DOD FX80 Compressor ---> BOSS DS-1 Distortion ---> MXR Micro Chorus (the first pedal I ever bought) ---> Dunlop Cry Baby Wah ---> Fender Super 60 1x12 Tube Amp.

Then I parted ways with everything, sold it all, traded it, hocked it, etc... and ended up with a Digitech RP7 Valve guitar processor (which I still have - along with the old Cry Baby wah pedal).

How about you? Assorted pedals or all-in-one guitar processor?

I've preferred each at different times. I have a Line6 PODxt, a bunch of stompboxes(lately I've been collecting fuzz pedals), amps with DSP, and plug-ins for recording. Then I'll put them all away and just play through an amp. Right now I'm in serious pedal mode. The chain changes daily.

I prefer pedals. I have a POD vs. 1 I use for recording, but generally I run the pedalboard thru that as well.

If my amp would break up at lower volumes without making my ears bleed; I would run straight into the amp with no boxes more often.

I really prefer pedals over processors.

i have used both for many years.
i like the pedal system best. has several advantages over
the rack system. if a new pedal comes out i can add it cheaply.
if a new pedal comes out that does a better job than the one
i currently have in position, i can replace it cheaply.
the best thing and the biggest advantage with the pedal system
is if something in my pedal chain goes bad, i can remove it and keep
jamming until i either fix it or replace it, either way the show goes on.
you cant do that with a rack system. if something goes bad
the whole thing goes down.

When I first got into guitar I loved the whole idea of a having everything all in one. I have a Digitech GNX3, and I'd basically just use a ton of effects for everything. (Of course, I was just starting out and somewhat insecure about my playing as most beginners are. So to a certain extent, one of the reasons I played like that was to try and cover up the rough spots through effects.)

Now I try to be more of a minimalist. In blues, I just like turning the amp up all the way. But in my alternative rock band I have to have some different tones and effects to make things work. I've been borrowing a friend's Boss DD-20, which I like a lot for delay because of the quick switching for presets. I also use assorted overdrives, a wah, and tremolo. That just about does it. I prefer the pedal route now.

At the moment I only have a Pod, which is good for me as I only play at home. One day though, I would like to have a good amp, which I can just go straight into, or maybe just one or two decent pedals. But I am a newbie to the tone game, so this may well change

A little of all three. Whatever that gets the job done 8) I got a big muff for distortion, an EHX freeze for fooling around, and a RP 250 for anything else. I just got a looper but I don't have room for it on my board.

With thoughts about expanding my pedal board, I went to the goodwill today and bought an old luggage case for four bucks... smelled like mothballs and was a mess underneth all the felt.

I'll post a thread too when it gets done

I use my Vox VC 12 Footcontroller processor when going into my Vox AD120VTH plus a couple of effects just in case but use pedals in my other amps but more often than not lately I play straight into the amp.

Let's try this again. I deleted the last one somehow. I love my Boss GT8. I can get some damn good sounds out of it. It sounds good through both of my amps, Fender Pro Junior, and Crate Blue VooDoo with half stack. You just have to know how to change things, work an equalizer, etc. Great processor!

I have pedals, from Boss to Fab, etc. and I really like the GT8 for recording purposes and bedroom playing.....hell I just like it.

I alternate depending on what will get the job done best with primo results.

I have a lot of pedals (some older than a few members here!), 2 different Korg multi-fx units, amps with some cool mods and tons of plug-ins/vst's. Sometimes I'll just mic the amp rig and let the person running the board dial in what I like.
